This important and impactful role within Beverage R&D enables Keurig Dr. Pepper to deliver the best possible beverage to partners, customers, and consumers at the right value. The Product development scientist II will:

Through sound scientific method and technical excellence, formulate and design coffee and hot beverages for quality, cost, and performance Generate ideas for beverage innovation, in close collaboration with consumer insights, marketing, and procurement Advance the business through technical excellence ensuring all aspects meet or exceed the quality and product performance requirements within a managed timeline and cost objective.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:

This role is multifaceted, and will balance hands on beverage formulation, project management, participation/support in consumer science analysis and interpretation, experimental test method development, data analysis, and intense collaboration with cross-functional teams, specifically brand marketing and coffee sourcing and trading

Responsibilities:

  • Support a wide range of development activities from concept development and prototype generation to pilot plant and plant scale up for coffee and hot beverages

  • Develop experimental plans to test consumer perception and product stability of formulations

  • Source and develop new ingredients and beverage processing solutions for innovation and/or cost savings

  • Commercialize and scale beverage product from pilot to full scale manufacturing

  • Create and drive timelines, actions plans, reports, and presentations to communicate progress and manage risk

  • Manage and lead complex projects and play a leading role in team meetings, project updates, and brainstorm sessions with project teams

  • Represent beverage technical considerations including quality, sensory characteristics, stability, food safety, manufacturability, and appliance functionality

  • Partner with cross functional business teams to deliver strategy; provide technical subject matter expertise and foundational product knowledge

  • Positively influence and engage in a creative, performance driven culture

Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Food Science, or Engineering discipline. Beverage concentration experience, coffee and/or dairy beverage formulation experience highly desired/preferred

  • 5+ years of experience in product development in the innovation space; CPG, foods and beverages, experience preferred

  • Ability to understand and interpret consumer sensory data, and provide recommendations

  • Understand Good Lab and Manufacturing Practices, and Food Safety Regulatory Standards

  • Adequate business orientation; ability to ask relevant questions, understand business case and consumer proposition

  • Independent and collaborative, able to drive R&D initiatives across many diverse teams

  • Strong team player; experience in bringing teams/individuals together to deliver projects; strong thought and executional leadership

Key Roles & Responsibilities: * Defines new product vision alongside Trend and Merchandising; focusing on finish, material, form, color, icon and overall design and value. * Develops and manages product category specifications to ensure adherence to industry standards. * Anticipates issues ahead of team members to develop contingencies to meet project timelines and minimize risks. * Manages the necessary documents to track and ensure that development of products is timely. * Plans, schedules and forecast milestone timelines and project deliverables. * Develops and assesses new product innovations through competitive and industry research, analyzing data to present a value proposition. * Designs exclusive programs and collections that are within the customer's retail and margin requirements; seeks opportunities for cost optimization for projects. * Collaborates with cross functional teams to identify opportunities within each design style while leveraging the company's core competencies. * Manages vignette product development process, based on company trends. * Ensures revenue and customer satisfaction goals are met via total company sales and gross margin plan. * Maintains a 40% product development adoption rate * Responsible for day to day PD communications between US and Factories/Trading Partners. * Builds and maintains a library of core materials, finishes, forms, samples and pantones, by category * Effectively communicates relevant project information to team and senior leaders in company to keep projects moving in the right direction. * Works with management and buying teams to ensure process is efficient. * Maintains up-to-date knowledge of category performance sales, margin and sell-through * Leading a team of Associate(s) and/or Assistant(s) may be required. * BA/BS degree * 4-6 years of Product Development and/or Product Management experience.
