We are currently seeking experienced manager to lead and grow team of scientists and engineers working on advanced optical systems for near-to-eye display applications. This is a full-time position and requires masters level degree in optical engineering, physics, or similar, and experience in development and validation of complex optical systems. Successful candidates must be comfortable working in a dynamic cross-functional team and exhibit excellent interpersonal communication skills.


  • Own the end-to-end product development cycle of the product with excellent and timely technical execution.

Partner with the Research Manager in moving technologies developed in the lab to incorporate into the product.

Build and manage the team to deliver on the roadmap.

Build engineering capabilities and processes for the design, development, debugging, and testing of the optical systems.

Collaborate across multiple internal teams on definition and execution of product development roadmap, including program managers, system engineers, product managers, and manufacturing.

Inspire, lead, coach a team of product development engineers and scientists.


  • 5+ years of experience in optical sciences or engineering in product development.

Demonstrated track record in taking product from technology to production.
3+ years of engineering management experience.

Experience with optical systems design, custom materials, electronics, testing, characterization, and manufacturing technologies.

Knowledge of opto-mechatronics technologies including materials properties, visual optical performance, and electronic controls.

Knowledge in designed experiments, data management, and related statistical data analysis methods.

Communication, leadership, and team collaboration experience.

Experience with New Product Introduction (NPI).

MS or PhD in Optical Sciences or Physics or related field with experience in research and development of advanced optics, materials science, or photonic systems.

Experience solving technical problems.


  • Experience with physics, mechanical, optical and/or electrical modeling tools.

Experience in one or more of the following optical technologies: eye tracking, nano-optics, nano-fabrication, waveguides, liquid crystals, accommodation, freeform optics, lasers, uleds, diffractive optics, mems imaging.

We are currently seeking innovative research interns with a passion for technology to develop next-generation head-mounted display and imaging systems at our research location in Redmond, WA. These roles are focused on the research and development of optical components and systems towards building advanced virtual reality display systems. In particular we welcome PhD students in optical science or engineering, electrical engineering, physics, or similar. Our internships are twelve (12) to sixteen (16) weeks long and we have various start dates throughout the year. RESPONSIBILITIES * Develop next generation AR/VR display prototypes with an emphasis on both modeling and prototyping of the new concepts. Explore the application of one of the following - polarization concepts, nano or micro optics, or geometric optics design. The position will have an emphasizing the development of advanced simulations and prototyping to prove new concepts and the perceptual impact of those concepts. Collaborate with the larger Oculus Research team and provide creative leadership on computational display and imaging technologies. The type of work should be publishable research results in top-tier journals and at leading international conferences. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS * Pursuing a PhD in Physics, Optical Science, Engineering, Material Science or equivalent. Currently enrolled in a full time degree program and returning to the program after the completion of the internship. 3+ years of experience in nanoscale optical design or fabrication. 1+ years of experience with nano-scale fabrication techniques 1+ years of experience in optical characterization or other metrology techniques Interpersonal skills: cross-group and cross-culture collaboration Able to obtain work authorization in the U.S. between January 1, 2019 and December 31, 2019 PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS * Demonstrated experience via an internship, work experience, or widely used contributions to open source projects Proven track record of achieving significant results as demonstrated by first-authored publications Facebook Redmond WA
