Serves as the technical and administrative lead in Product Development to develop and commercialize new medical diagnostic automated systems for slide-based staining and imaging. Understands implications of the work and makes recommendations for solutions. Serves as the single point of contact for the Lifecycle team(s). Assists in determining methods and procedures on new assignments. Monitors work to ensure quality, and continuously promote Quality First Time.

Responsibilities

  • Oversees all technical and administrative aspects of assigned project, including hardware & software systems and associated testing.

  • Directs and coordinates the development of new platforms; works with engineering teams to develop platforms to meet project timelines.

  • Ensures technical integrity of project deliverables, including compliance to applicable standards for medical diagnostic systems.

  • Applies engineering concepts and principles in creative and effective ways on both new and existing products.

  • Investigates the feasibility of applying a wide variety of engineering principles and concepts to potential inventions, products and problems.

  • Maintains broad knowledge of state-of-the-art principles and theory in order to identify and recommend emerging technologies of relevant company interest and proposes development strategy on cutting-edge trends and developments in area of expertise.

  • Provides input to Project Development plan to establish project contract on development interface.

  • Manages third party development resources contributing to project.

  • Provides Project Leadership with work break down for all development deliverables and associated resource requirement and schedule input and budget (FTE & Expenses) for all development deliverables.

  • Provides regular project updates to senior leadership.

  • Represents Product Development at all phase gate reviews.

Education:

Master's Degree

in Science with 12 years of related engineering/science experience

Bachelor's Degree

with 14 years of related engineering/science experience.

Experience:
12 years

of related engineering/science experience (with M.S.)
14 years

of related engineering/science experience (with B.S.)

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Proven ability to work on extremely complex problems where analysis of situations or data requires an

evaluation of intangible variables.

Ability to exercise independent judgment in developing methods, techniques and evaluation criteria for

obtaining results.

Demonstrated skill in technical proficiency, engineering creativity, collaboration with others and

independent thought.

Expert knowledge of engineering principles and concepts related to assigned project.

Proven ability to present and discuss data, present alternative action plans (and consequences), and

clearly communicate recommendations to any level of the organization.

Proven ability to contribute and interact productively with project teams as a creative, innovative engineer; accountable for development milestones and budgets.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: * Identifies R&D process improvement initiatives that either streamline, create consistency, reduce cost, and/or increase efficiency by collaborating with cross-functional teams to review key performance indicators, project trends, project data, project issues, quality observations and issues, product development issues, strategy, and organizational needs. * Drives continuous improvement initiatives by building project proposals and influencing stakeholders to gain approval for those proposals. * Develops, reviews, and implements project plans for R&D development process improvement initiatives (including scope, budgets, schedules, and resources). * Develops and analyzes key performance indicators and measures; establishes baselines for performance measures; and monitors process improvement initiatives against baselines for improvement tracking. * Markets and reports on R&D improvement initiative results. Ensures consistency in reporting with key performance measures through training, guidance, or other mechanisms. * Supports regulatory compliance and internal audit activities of processes in R&D. Ensures preparedness and efficiency in delivery of regulatory compliance audit information for product development processes. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Formal Training/Education: BS degree in a related discipline; Engineering or science discipline preferred. Black Belt in either Six Sigma or Design for Six Sigma preferred. Project management training preferred. Experience: 10+ years of relevant experience with 5+ years of experience within an FDA regulated industry. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: * Expert knowledge of product development processes and understanding of how they are applied to Medical Devices per FDA 21 CFR Part 820 Subpart C and ISO 13485. * Excellent communication skills, especially in the areas of negotiation, influencing, and networking * Ability to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization by establishing credibility and building rapport. * Excellent problem solving, analytical, and decision making skills. * Driven, self-starter with excellent planning and organizational skills and a strong attention to detail #LI-SR1 Roche is an equal opportunity employer.
