This position creates and develops products and processes to support growth and profitability. This employee on researching new materials and products from trial through to commercialization; managing scale-up processes from pilot plant to full-scale manufacturing; improving product lines; developing, modifying and improving the manufacturing process; working directly with global and national brands to develop innovative new packaging concepts; keeping abreast of new technologies, and working with cross-functional and cross-site team members in the development of new products, cost improvements, and technologies.
This position will drive new product or process innovations, and design improvements for existing products. The role will insure the quality, cost, and on time delivery of new products to the market. Responsibilities include developing project plans and working within the innovation process to drive product developments from inception to commercialization. This will include strong relationships with raw material and equipment suppliers, industry experts, laboratories, manufacturing, sales and customers.
Essential Duties and Tasks

Designing, developing, and specifying multi-layer film, lamination, and pouch structures for packaging food and industrial products;
Conducting lab & pilot scale extrusion, printing, coating & lamination, and pouching research that supports product and process innovation and improvement, and scaling that research to commercial processes;
Collaborating with local product development engineers and material & process suppliers to develop specifications, evaluate, and control properties of substrates, materials and processes critical to the manufacture of ProAmpac Flexibles products;
Supporting the qualification of substrates, development materials, and processes used in the manufacture of film, laminations, and pouches;
Providing technical support in solving product quality problems;
Utilizing project management skills to effectively drive product development and innovation projects including: project summary updates, innovation gating process documentation, project planning grant charts, preparing pertinent IP collateral, ensuring freedom-to-use documentation, collaborating with cross-functional teams;
Completing cost analyses for product development and innovation projects to ensure opportunities for commercial success exist.
Supporting marketing requests for product performance and technical information;
Supporting and/or leading customer innovation sessions aimed at developing new product concepts
Writing product evaluation protocols, performing product testing, and authoring engineering reports with recommendations.
Validating materials and processes in accordance with FDA standards;
Designing and creating specifications for new products or product improvements including coordinating with in-house and outside suppliers;
Designing, developing, implementing and documenting manufacturing processes for multi-layer film or lamination products;
Keeping abreast of and identifying new developments in materials, including resins, additives, film, adhesives, inks, and coatings, and processes, extrusion, treating, coating, printing, laminating and pouch making, to ensure ProAmpac has access to new technologies;
Providing general technical knowledge and fundamentals to a wide array of projects and personnel.

Qualifications, Education and Experience
Bachelor's Degree required, preferably chemical engineering, paper/pulp or equivalent combination of education and experience. Post-graduate degree a plus. Statistics and statistical process control training.
At least 4 6 years of previous technical service, process control, quality engineering, product development or other related technical experience.
Knowledge of continuous improvement methodologies required such as Six Sigma, Lean, etc.
Experience with FDA requirements and ISO standards.
Experience using Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Power Point), and Outlook email and calendar capabilities.
Maintains strict confidentiality and protects privacy of confidential/sensitive information.
Exceptional time management and organization skills.
Ability to communicate effectively (verbal, written, and presentations) with executive leadership, staff, and internal and external clients.
Proactive; exercises sound judgment and decision making; able to identify problems and needs and develop solutions and/or options.
