Job Summary:

This Product Development Engineer works as a member of the Furnace Engineering Team to develop new indoor gas furnaces. The specific responsibilities will include design of furnace systems and key subsystems.

This position is not eligible for relocation assistance.

Core Job Responsibilities (others may be added):

  • Participation as an active member of the product development team.

  • Gas furnace and/or subsystem development.

  • Work with design engineers to develop accurate models for analysis using Pro/ENGINEER.

  • Scoping and reviewing CFD and FEA analysis.

  • Material and component specification.

  • Coordination and scheduling of prototype builds and evaluation.

  • Development, validation, reliability and field testing.

  • Agency compliance testing and listings (UL, CSA, ETL).

  • Engineering data/unit attribute creation.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical, Electrical or Aerospace Engineering and at least 3 years experience in gas combustion system design or testing is required.

  • Experience in residential gas furnace system design is preferred.

  • Experience in residential gas furnace system design or testing is highly preferred.

  • Temperature and pressure switches, flame sensor and igniter experience a plus.

  • Electrical wiring and/or controls experience a plus.

  • Experience with solid modeling design package (such as CREO) a plus.

The convenience store retail business is the largest 7-Eleven licensee in the United States and operates approximately 300 convenience stores in central and west Texas and New Mexico. Role Summary The Refinery Process Engineer performs a variety of technical support work for the refinery operating units including crude fractionation, reforming, alkylation, hydrotreating, amine treating, and other processing units. Technical support is responsible for providing process engineering expertise for assigned projects in refining or logistics sectors. This role performs process engineering activities and provides oversight in all project phases including feasibility and economic studies, conceptual design, identification and evaluation of alternatives, front-end design, detail engineering, construction and start-up. Job Accountabilities * Ensure Safety, Environmental Compliance, Reliability and Operating Excellence throughout the Refinery. * Interpret, summarize, and present results of data analysis in monitoring operating unit performance, troubleshooting equipment operation, evaluating catalyst performance, and recommending operating guidelines and process improvements. * Work as a team with unit operators and supervisors for assigned areas of the refinery to troubleshoot problems and improve operations. This includes reviewing Key Performance Indicators with the operations team daily. * Research and provide process engineering technical support to the business team, production units, environmental activities and plant projects to improve unit operations, process safety and environmental performance * Evaluate and approve design improvements to production capacity, efficiency, process safety and environmental performance including complex designs * Administer plant performance test runs as required * Participate in conceptual design studies in support of unit revamp or debottleneck. Develop new designs and ratings of major pieces of equipment: heat exchangers, vessels, distillation columns, etc. * Assist in development of process design packages and perform process design work for engineering design packages. * Interact with outside consultants and vendors to improve the unit operation or solve problems * Develop and run models to simulate various processes. * Generate heat and material balances and stream data. * Work with support teams to monitor unit operations, correct problems and assist in improvements, usually for special problems or projects * Coordinate and assist in implementation of plant system changes, including equipment additions, modifications and/or deletions and process design * Develop efficiency strategies which optimize process unit profitability by maximizing throughput and yields while minimizing operating costs * Maintain knowledge of latest technologies and best practices for refining industry * Approve process design to Units for refinery improvements, expansions, and compliance projects * Create/Maintain mass balances of units to assist with yield optimization and yield accounting * Participate in plant shutdown, startup, and turnaround assistance, including equipment process inspections, catalyst loading and sulfiding, startup and plant performance * Ensure completion of process engineering study and design for new projects and coordinate with Engineering Department to complete projects * Provide process support to environmental activities * Coordinate work with other departments in the refinery including Mechanical Design and Maintenance. * Develop, communicate and document process engineering activities in unit support, design, plant engineering, environmental and process safety support activities * Provide technical assistance in PSM, Quality, Safety, and Environmental compliance * Determine and provide process-related cost estimates for refinery capital budgets * Assist in developing the Process Engineer Department budget * Create notifications and purchase requisitions in EAM * Initiate and manage contracts with outside services (water chemicals, process chemicals, catalyst, nitrogen, oxygen, and others) as required * Other duties as assigned Required Qualifications * Bachelor's degree in Chemical, or Petroleum engineering * Thorough understanding of fundamental theories of heat and mass transfer, fluid dynamics, thermodynamics, separations, and control systems * Strong technical, quantitative analysis and process orientation skills * Ability to draw, read and interpret engineering drawings * Solid verbal and written communication skills * Strong interpersonal and organizational skills * Ability to interact effectively and positively with all levels of the Organization * Demonstrated organizational skills and an ability to manage multiple projects and tasks in an effective manner * Demonstrated problem solving skills and sound engineering principles * Knowledge of process design, instrumentation, process control and statistics * Proficient with process simulation software * Demonstrated leadership skills * Proficient computer skills, specifically with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) * Must pass drug test and background check * Must be legally authorized to work in the United States Desired Characteristics * Master's Degree in a technical engineering discipline * Three (3) years of experience in refinery, chemical or petrochemical plant process or production experience * Working knowledge of root cause analysis concepts * Considerable knowledge of safe work practices, OSHA and Environmental rules and regulations * Knowledge/experience with 5-S, Six Sigma or Lean Manufacturing principles We are an equal opportunity employer and all qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity or national origin, disability status, protected veteran status, or any other characteristic protected by law.
