Job scope:

The designer modifies existing designs and develops new designs for pump, cyclone and valve components and assemblies. This includes 3D models, 2D drawings, general arrangements, assembly arrangements, and detailed drawings. We are looking for someone who is a team player but also able to take the initiative in driving communications and designs.

Responsibilities:

The primary duty is to design models, drawings and parts using a 3D modeling software (Primarily Catia) that is connected to our Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) system with revision control (We are transitioning from SmarTeam to Enovia 3D Experience)

Works with other Product Development and engineering personnel to learn how to design new pump, cyclone and valve products and components and improve existing designs for optimum wear, cost, performance, and ease of maintenance.

Learns how and begins to work with manufacturing and assembly to provide technical support concerning new and modified pump component designs.

Learn from all team members especially senior Engineers and Designers while looking for ways to improve efficiency in getting more designs done while maintaining high quality.

An essential part of this role is understanding the real production methods and issues as well as assembly and maintenance challenges so that the design successfully can be made to required form fit and function when the parts are made and assembled. This is a development process so this person will need to be able to interpret and apply feedback into design improvements.

Capable of using standard computer software tools such as databases, spreadsheets, word processing programs to communicate within the department and with other FLSmidth department

Ability to get along with others and work in a team environment.

Interact with other mechanical designers and engineers to ensure standardization and alignment with other employees, departments and systems.

Work with vendors and internal manufacturing to answer technical questions concerning new and modified designs.

Some projects will be designing for the Research and testing phase which requires a different focus and skillset to support prototypes and testing and be flexible. Other projects are focused more on design of development stage parts/equipment and therefore need to be standardized and very high quality to ensure production, assembly and operation have no issues.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Associate's degree (A. A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school and five years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Highly desired to have Catia experience or AutoCad 3-D experience. Any exposure to CFD and FEA software is a plus.

Desired experience: Familiarity with manufacturing processes. Familiarity with the use of hand and power tools.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to calculate figures such as proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

COMPUTER SKILLS

Demonstrate a proficiency to operate, at an advanced level, a variety of software programs including, but not limited to, word processing, spreadsheets, presentation graphics, Email, personal information management and specialized programs relating to job function. Must be familiar with 3D Modeling Software packages.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

Valid driver's license and passport.
