Mission

The mission of our Product team is to build products and features that empower both employers and workers on our platform. We are information magnets and work closely with other teams to determine how we can move the needle for key metrics across our business.

In this role you will ensure a seamless product experience across the user lifecycle for workers and employers on our platform. You will be involved in every step of the product development journey and have the opportunity to shape the process from the ground up. You will solve problems with a user-first approach blending service design, visual design, interaction design, user research, and prototyping across both our employer platform and worker app experiences.

This role is based in New York City (HQ) with typically 3+ days per week in the office.

Outcomes: What problems you will solve

  • Own the user experience for both employers and workers on our platform. Design and develop high quality wireframes, mockups, user flows and prototypes with an eye towards accessibility.

  • Consistently deliver compelling design solutions with an appropriate balance of viability, functionality, and delight.

  • Effectively articulate your thought process and strategic rationale to help stakeholders understand and align on design decisions.

  • Contribute to and maintain Shiftsmart's design system, information architecture, and design processes to ensure consistency and quality throughout the product.

  • Partner with Product, Engineering, Marketplace, Customer, Growth and other teams as relevant to actively define the product strategy.

  • Conduct user research to deeply understand our customers, generating new product ideas and refining solutions.

Competencies: Who you are

You enjoy starting with the user and working backward to the solution, and are excited to work on a business with multiple stakeholders and unique design challenges.

  • Product design: You have 4-7+ years experience working in UX, UI, HCI or other product design related roles, and ideally in startups. You have a strong understanding of the full product development lifecycle.

  • User journey design: Experience with developing complex and iterative B2C user journeys and experiences, conducting experimentation. Experience building products from 0 → 1.

  • User research: Strong ability to understand and empathize with end users, translating those learnings into actionable insights. Experience building UX research programs/processes, a plus.

  • Influence: You effectively partner and collaborate with both product managers and engineers to ship products, even without formal authority.

  • Clear communicator: You are an excellent writer (memos, slides) and excel at making the complex simple to empower decision-making.

  • Analytically-minded: You have strong analytical skills and can blend quantitative data with qualitative insights to test hypotheses.

Compensation philosophy

To provide greater transparency we share base salary ranges, which are based on role and level benchmarked against similar stage, high growth companies. Offers are determined based on multiple factors including skills, work experience, and relevant credentials.

We lead with data. We use facts, not fiction, to build narratives and make decisions. To do this we prepare written memos in advance and resist the urge to engage in endless water cooler what ifs, because we value the time and attention of our teammates.

We hire and develop the best. When we decide to hire a new team member, we do so because we believe they will increase the talent density on our team. We view ourselves as leverage maximizers rather than inconvenience reducers and strive to increase the output of everyone we interact with.

Honesty Over Harmony

We share the truth even when it is painful. We do not, however, share the truth callously to hurt people's feelings or make them look bad.

We also assume positive intent. If someone is not delivering in a way that we need, we ask them and tell them before assuming the worst.

We embrace mutual feedback. As people leaders we care more about our team's growth and success than how much others like us.

We tell the truth to ourselves. We reject a pollyannaish view of our world.

We have the meeting in the meeting. If something is broken or we disagree, we call it out and say something in the moment even if it feels uncomfortable to do so. This means that if something is broken, we do not just accept it and complain later.
