About the role

We are looking for an inspired, collaborative, creative Product Designer (Contract) to join our team. You will craft the experience hundreds of thousands of users have while interacting with our product offerings. This role is not appropriate for someone solely focused on UX design - strength in visual/UI design is required to be successful in this role. We are open to local and remote candidates, 20-40 hours per week.

You will:

  • Design interactive, rich web experiences across desktop and mobile.

  • Drive end-to-end design projects to improve existing products and to develop new features.

  • Participate in all aspects of the design process ideation, market and user research, wireframing, prototyping and high fidelity design production.

  • Produce pixel perfect design documentation for engineers to implement.

  • Find simple and elegant solutions to complex user flows.

  • Work effectively cross-functionally, with product, design, engineering, marketing and operations teams.

  • Work in a dynamic start-up environment where opportunity for ownership and impact is significant.

  • Be independent, reliable and respectful.

Education and Experience:

  • 2+ years of progressive experience in product design, web design, UI/UX design and/or art direction with a focus on web and mobile consumer products is required.

  • Bachelor's degree in Web Design, Graphic Design, UI/UX, HCI or a related field.

  • A beautiful, inspiring portfolio that demonstrates real life experience with interaction models, customer flows, style guides, and prototypes for web and/or mobile products.

  • Strong, demonstrated visual design aptitude a great sense for color, form, typography and other design elements is shown in your work.

  • Deep knowledge of design tools - Photoshop, Sketch, Illustrator, Figma and any other tools needed to get the job done.

  • Experience executing full cycle user research processes is a plus everything from personas and ethnographic research to surveys, interviews and usability testing.

  • Meticulous attention to detail and strong project management skills.

  • Experience with HTML and CSS nice to have.

Job Responsibilities * Create design assets for iOS and Android for multiple device sizes and resolutions. * Participate in conceptualizing, designing, and executing new interactive ideas. * Offer multiple content/creative solutions to a task. * Stay up-to-date on the latest design trends, newest digital platforms and competitive landscape and apply best practices to all work. * Create pixel perfect UI elements: illustrations, icons, photos and meticulous production of high-fidelity visual design comps * Create and manage visual design documentation and specifications * Support design consistency and quality across multiple digital channels, device platforms and screen resolutions. * Build strong relationships with engineering, product management, research and content partners. * Influence the shape of the product with research and data while executing design work using high quality wireframes, mockups, user journeys, and cross-platform interactive prototypes. * Be fully invested in our culture of experimentation, and A/B testing. * Understand and interpret brand, user, and business needs, in order to develop innovative, creative, and results-oriented digital solutions * Maintain relevancy in the field by monitoring digital trends, new tools and workflows, attending workshops, and joining professional groups * Effectively manage time, prioritize tasks and work within deadlines Job Qualifications Education and Experience * Bachelor's degree in visual or graphics design or related field * Minimum of 3 years' design experience with iOS, Android or ecommerce Functional Skills * Highly proficient with design tools (Sketch, Photoshop, Illustrator, etc.). * Proficient with interactive prototyping tools (Origami, Invision, etc.). * Have tremendous visual design skills and the ability to tell a story * Excellent typographic skills and visual craftsmanship with strong design sensibilities. * Strong graphic design skills with an ability to work in a wide range of visual styles, with a sophisticated visual sense. * Ability to internalize a design language and evolve it into new contexts. * Proven ability to work within brand guidelines to create compelling visual solutions * Experience designing responsive pages as well as generating assets varying resolutions, screen sizes, and pixel densities for both for iOS and Android * Understanding of capabilities and limitations of front end technologies, including CSS, HTML, and JavaScript (you will not be expected to code) * Ability to bring projects from concept to completion, doing everything possible to ensure their success. * An understanding of current mobile and desktop interaction conventions. * Excellent oral and written communication skills, including the ability to articulate the rationale behind your design decisions and influence key stakeholders. * Must be detail-oriented with superior follow-through. * Be independent and proactive * Must be able to accept constructive criticism and to always drive to a better solution. * Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and efficiently with a strong sense of urgency. * Education or experience in user-centered design techniques * Must be highly motivated, positive and a passionate team player
