The Product Design Engineer is accountable for all aspects of engineering and design necessary to executed projects in the Core Products group. This typically involves generation of a comprehensive submittal for municipal projects, requisitions for purchase, coordination with the electrical engineer, and general support to the project manager throughout the life of the project. Responsibilities include full engineering, design, and detail of Suez standard product offerings, modified for client needs. These products include simple steel fabrications to more complex mechanical assemblies. All products are designed in 3D using SolidWorks to produce high quality 2D drawing packages for client approval, fabrication, erection, and inclusion in operating instruction. The Product Design Engineer will work hand in hand with Supply Chain and Project Management on a daily basis to ensure that design completion is meeting schedule, budget and process constraints.

  • Develop accurate product models and drawings, in a given time period, adjusting to project requirements.
  • Work with supply to select buyout components and develop a full submittal of all drawings and documents necessary for approval by the customer.
  • Coordinate with the electrical engineer to ensure electrical, instrumentation, and controls design is complete and per project requirements.
  • Design custom platforms, ladders, walkways, and handrails to interface with the standard product in compliance with governing standards (OSHA, IBC, etc.)
Required Skills
  • Detail oriented with the understanding of schedule and budget constraints
  • Strong Mechanical aptitude with an understanding of mechanical systems and design. Machine design experience preferred.
  • Skilled in SolidWorks 3D modeling.
  • Skilled in SolidWorks 2D Drafting.
  • Be able to read and interpreted required specifications and/or national codes insure compliant design.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills is a must have to effectively work with other engineering disciplines
  • Ability to work within a multi-disciplinary team including process, mechanical, civil-structural, electrical, instrumentation, and other 3D designers.
  • Strong aptitude for planning, organizing and scheduling.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license.
  • Must be willing to travel 10-15% domestically and internationally (Canada at a minimum).
  • Schedule Based and Results Driven.

Must be able to effectively communicate, organize and be efficient in time management with a team of engineers from multiple disciplines. High levels of decision making, organization and planning is required to be effective.

Required Experience

EDUCATION: BSME or equivalent

  • At least 2 years experience in Mechanical Design in engineering field.
  • At least 2 years'working with universal drafting standards
  • SolidWorks Certifications and experience preferred specifically in sheet metal design, weldments, assemblies, 2D drawings, Bill of Materials and Library usages.
  • Experience working from industry P&IDs, electrical schematics and datasheets.
  • Experience with EPDM Vault and check-in/check-out procedures.
  • Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) fluent.
  • Experienced in inter-piping and skidded arrangement piping design preferred.
  • Water treatment industry experience preferred.
