The Product Data Operations team lead large-scale data labeling projects that power Facebook machine learning projects and generate insights for how to improve our products. Our mission is to empower product to drive the best possible user experience for the Facebook platform. This is a full-time internship position for Summer 2020, based in either our Sunnyvale, CA or Menlo Park, California offices.


  • Collaborate with members of the PDO team as well as Product Managers, Engineering Leads, Research, Marketing and Analytics to understand a key business problem

Partner with those people to develop a structured, actionable project plan

Analyze relevant data and effectively summarize insights

Present findings, next steps, and impact clearly to company leaders

Deliver against the project plan in collaboration with teammates


  • Pursuing a Bachelor's Degree

Experience meeting objectives without supervision

Experience in a customer service or consumer-oriented environment

Experience developing strategic solutions

Must obtain work authorization in country of employment at the time of hire, and maintain ongoing work authorization during employment


  • Intent to return to degree-program after the completion of the internship/co-op

As a Data Scientist Intern on the People Analytics Product Lab, you'll be conducting research to verify hypotheses in support of our next product incubation in the sustainable productivity space. Your role will place you at the center of our R&D team, collaborating closely with product managers, UX designers, data scientists, and partner teams to inform our product strategies through finding and articulating productivity insights. Minimum qualifications: * Currently pursuing a PhD degree in a quantitative discipline (Statistics, Biostatistics, Computer Science, Applied Mathematics, Operations Research, etc ) or similar involving experimental design and quantitative analysis of data. * Experience using technology to work with datasets such as scripting with Python, or statistical software (R, SAS or similar). * Experience with statistical data analysis such as linear models, multivariate analysis, stochastic models, and sampling methods. * Experience as an analyst, researcher or data scientist with large, complex datasets. Preferred qualifications: * Returning to a degree program after the internship ends. * Experience developing intellectual capital such as published works. * Understanding of natural language processing theories and applications. * Authorization to work in the United States. * Work with large, complex data sets. Solve difficult, non-routine analysis problems, applying advanced analytical methods as needed. * Conduct end-to-end analysis that includes data gathering and requirements specification, processing, analysis, ongoing deliverables, and presentations. * Interact cross-functionally with a wide variety of people and teams.
