The Product Data and Taxonomy Senior Analyst will be a critical contributor to enabling the CommerceHub Business Intelligence and Product Management Teams to leverage data, both derived from CommerceHub's own platform as well as gathered from third parties, to identify opportunities to generate additional company revenue and to derive insights for use in industry publications and company marketing materials. The successful candidate will lead the effort to build a world-class CommerceHub product database, including both product data and category taxonomy/hierarchy.
The Product Data and Taxonomy Senior Analyst will be the primary resource leading CommerceHub's data efforts in support of merchandising, retail, and product analytics, with a particular emphasis on product and taxonomy data related to ecommerce product attributes, categories, brands, ratings, pricing, and sales volumes. This person must have extensive experience in ecommerce and in working with data related to products purchased online. Further, the candidate must be familiar with product category taxonomies/hierarchies, and must be careful and attentive to detail in order to maximize the quality of the data in the product database.
The analyst must be able to take the lead in identifying those third-party providers with data most relevant and helpful to complementing CommerceHub's product database; coordinate the early stages of contractual discussions with those third parties; and support the integration with and manage ongoing day-to-day operational relationships with those third parties.
The candidate will help derive insights that can be used in more effectively marketing CommerceHub products, offerings and services. The candidate will also play an active role in collaborating with Product Management to define and prototype interfaces that summarize the data in charts, tables and other relevant visual representations relevant to business users such as the CommerceHub Merchandising Team, as well as merchant buyers. These interfaces will be used by both internal and external customers, and will leverage this product and category taxonomy data to clearly and concisely convey complex findings in a manner that can be easily understood.
The successful candidate will have a deep understanding of retail analytics, including seasonality of product sales, and substantial experience working with data related to ecommerce products, including data from third party data providers (e.g., Amazon, UPCItemDB, NPD, Indix, etc.). Additionally, the ideal candidate will have experience in two or more of the following: advanced mathematical/statistical model development (e.g., linear programming, discrete optimization, stochastic methods, econometric and other scientific methods and techniques), programming (e.g., Python and R), database development (e.g., SQL and ETL) and data visualization (e.g., Tableau, Power BI).
Combine CommerceHub and third-party product and taxonomy data for attributes, categories, brands, ratings, pricing, and sales volumes, and then use that to surface insights and identify opportunities for retailers to expand their online assortment.
Define and implement the best product taxonomy to support internal and external business users.
Identify, negotiate preliminary terms with, and support the technical integration with third parties that offer this ecommerce product data.
Build a repeatable, reliable, scalable process for enriching product data at high quantity and with high quality.
Partner with one or more third parties to implement a statistically valid, scalable process for measuring and improving product data coverage and quality.
Work meticulously to ensure that data is being properly mapped to the correct place in the category hierarchy.
Build a process that enables CommerceHub and external resources to fix identified errors in the data.
Identify and fix root causes of data errors.
Collaborate with Product Management to prototype offerings that add value to omnichannel retailers by using data to identify opportunities to add products and suppliers to the online assortments of those retailers.
Explain and document findings, both in writing and through helpful, applicable visualizations, that clearly and concisely represent those findings.
Knowledge & Skills
Intimate understanding of ecommerce product data, product categories, taxonomies and sales profiles.
Familiarity with industry third-party data sources.
At least 5 years of experience in ecommerce product and retail analytics.
