The Cybersecurity Innovation Engineer is responsible for executing cybersecurity innovation activities and deepening cybersecurity innovation among Product Cybersecurity. The Cybersecurity Innovation Engineer will participate in cybersecurity technology roadmap development, manage cybersecurity Advanced Technology Work (ATW) project execution and perform external Advanced Technology Work (ATW) project cybersecurity reviews. This position emphasizes growth in both technical and project management aspects. The Cybersecurity Innovation Engineering will work with cross-functional teams inside and outside Product Cybersecurity to move Cybersecurity Innovation forward.

Responsibilities:

  • Evaluate, recommend, participate in, and execute cybersecurity ATW projects

  • Manage Product Cybersecurity ATW project portfolio

  • Manage the execution of Cybersecurity ATW projects and ensure projects are completed according to the plan, and the planned deliverables are transitioned to the receiving teams

  • Perform threat analysis, risk assessment and cybersecurity reviews of external ATW projects and provide evaluation results to ATW project leaders

  • Bring critical external ATW projects to Product Cybersecurity and propose plan to address those critical ATW project needs

  • Identify technology insertion plans and facilitate technology transfer to Product Engineering teams

  • Own and build upon existing Cybersecurity Innovation processes

  • Work with internal stakeholders to understand cybersecurity technology needs and contribute to the development of cybersecurity technology roadmaps

  • Remain knowledgeable of cybersecurity technology trends and best practices for securing embedded control systems, cyber-physical system and connected vehicle ecosystems

  • Support and influence standardization activities ensuring Cybersecurity roadmap needs are aligned with industry standards

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Systems Engineering or equivalent majors

  • 7 years of engineering related experience

  • Working knowledge of best practices, design methodologies and security technologies used to secure vehicle systems

  • Working knowledge of common operating systems used in automotive ECUs or consumer electronics mobile devices

  • Working knowledge of automotive microcontrollers architectures

  • Relevant industrial or academic experience in cybersecurity for embedded systems and cyber-physical systems

  • In-depth knowledge in one or more specific cybersecurity technologies

  • Strong project management skills

  • Strong analytical/problem solving skills

  • Strong interpersonal skills with demonstrated ability to work with diverse/cross-functional teams

  • Effective communicator with strong oral and written presentation skills

  • Ability to handle ambiguity and make decisions and recommendations with limited data

Desired Skills:

  • Advanced degrees (M.S. or Ph.D. in cybersecurity) in relevant fields

  • Experience in embedded security, cyber-physical system security, IoT security, security design or cybersecurity research and development

  • Understanding of cryptographic techniques

  • Experience in automated driving, connected vehicle and major automotive subsystems

Knowledge of automotive communication protocols (e.g., CAN, CAN-FD, Ethernet, etc.)

  • Knowledge of wireless technologies such as 3G/4G/5G, LTE, Wi-Fi, DSRC, Bluetooth and BLE

  • Adversarial mindset from hacker's point of view
