Product Counsel - San Francisco Bay Area (858-Sls)

Our client is an integrated family office serving the investments, activities and foundations of its founders and their family. Entities associated with our client employ over 500 employees, ranging from foundation staff, program managers, investment professionals, finance and accounting staff, property managers, pilots, sailors, scientists, and a diverse range of other individuals.

The Product Counsel will be a key player in driving forward both philanthropic and groundbreaking initiatives by the organization's entities. Working closely with legal, engineering, and program teams, this Attorney will be at the forefront of addressing legal matters affecting technology development, investments, and private foundations in highly controlled industries in the U.S. and internationally.
Responsibilities:

• Proactively identifying, analyzing, and mitigating legal and regulatory risks at every stage of the product life cycle.

• Structuring product development and operational activities with an eye towards data, information security, and intellectual property issues.

• Developing deep expertise with relevant US and international laws and regulations that enable you to implement smart mitigations and guardrails.

• Collaborating with team members and key stakeholders to develop and oversee the organization's data, IT, and IP programs.

• Providing daily legal and operational guidance to business and engineering stakeholders as issues arise.

• Understanding the regulatory landscape in all applicable jurisdictions and staying ahead of the curve on industry laws and regulations, ensuring that the organization's strategies are always cutting-edge.

• Crafting legal documents, policies, and training materials that are easily implementable and empower the organization's teams to thrive.

• Collaborating seamlessly with legal, business and program teams, fostering a culture of innovation.

• Navigating and negotiating complex commercial relationships with finesse.

• Reviewing, drafting, and negotiating contracts with an eye towards how agreement terms impact broader organizational goals and development efforts.

• Tackling challenges head-on with a practical mindset, prioritizing resolutions that drive progress.

Requirements:

• Juris Doctorate from a top-tier law school

• Active bar license in good standing in the state in which you currently reside

• Minimum 5 years legal experience, including product counseling experience in an in-house environment

• Experience with communications, science and engineering, product development, and business operations, positioning you as a bridge between legal and other stakeholders and subject matter experts

• Hands-on experience counseling teams around international regulatory compliance, proving your ability to navigate complex legal terrain

• A commitment to operating in highly confidential environments, earning trust through your integrity.

• Sharp analytical skills, coupled with the ability to communicate complex legal concepts with clarity and the ability to understand and decipher highly technical science and engineering topics.

• Superb project management abilities, ensuring initiatives stay on track and deliver results.

• A knack for creative problem-solving, tackling challenges with innovation and agility

• The capacity to juggle competing priorities with grace, adapting seamlessly to shifting landscapes.

• A dedication to responsiveness and service, putting our teams' needs first in every interaction.

• Experience working with military contracts is preferred

• Experience working with autonomous vehicles is preferred

The current targeted base salary for this position ranges from $245K - $305K, plus a potential bonus. Actual compensation is determined based on a number of factors, including a candidate's qualifications, years of directly relevant experience, and geographic location.
