This position will manage and track all compliance testing, working directly with 3rd party testing labs, for existing products currently sold on the Shutterfly site, as well as a portion of new development products. This includes but not limited to Home Dcor, Photobooks and 3D Gifts. Shutterfly Inc. products may expand across multiple brands and primarily include the management of the existing product line, produced by both external partners and internal suppliers.

We are looking for an experienced, highly motivated, self-starter who has desire and drive to make things happen in a fast-paced environment. The right candidate must demonstrate excellent organization and communication skills, work well within cross-functional department activities, and possess effective leadership qualities.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

This role must have a strong understanding of state, federal and international safety regulations, product development and compliance in connection with the manufacturing and distribution of consumer products. Products include but not limited to Photobooks, Gifts, Home Dcor, etc. This person will also be responsible for compiling data and tracking the launch and execution of the new compliance updates (newsletters, etc.) that will be shared to all cross-functional teams. A successful candidate will also assist in the development and management of the company's product compliance attributes for the online Help Center for Customer Care Team (CCT) as well as verbiage used on site and any associated labeling and packaging.

The person in this position will:

  • This position will be based in Fort Mill, SC or Shakopee, MN.

  • Reports directly to the Manager, Product Compliance (based in Fort Mill, SC).

  • Manage and track product testing timelines for the existing product line produced by external partners, as well as all new development products, third party laboratories, and report safety and/or compliance issues to Manager, Regulatory Compliance & Product Safety for select brands.

  • Actively review price quotes from testing lab, to determine most effective testing and cost savings for the business.

  • Stay current on changes to State / Federal / International safety requirements and regulations and notify teams accordingly.

  • Report any legal matters directly to Manager, Regulatory Compliance & Product Safety.

  • Demonstrate leadership with excellent organizational and communication skills.


Bachelor's Degree (or equivalent), at least 3 years related experience in the regulatory compliance and/or product safety in consumer products (custom-made and/or off the shelf) required. Detailed experience with CPSC (Consumer Product Safety Commission), CPSIA (Children's Product), as well as project management, manufacturing and/or product development and 3rd party lab testing required.

Ability to understand current processes, identify improvement opportunities and recommend enhancement solutions.

A working knowledge of overseas manufacturing, supply chain principles and processes / procedures are highly recommended.

Data analysis, identifying root cause, recommending solutions and implementing procedural changes, workflow management highly recommended.

Reasoning Ability:

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to successfully manage problems involving several variables in standardized situations, driving favorable results.

Computer Skills Required:

Microsoft Suite: Outlook, Word, Excel & Power Point

Data Management Systems Recommended:

Share Point, Google Docs, Tableau, Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) or equivalent workflow systems desired.

Travel: Must have the ability to travel (10%) to Shutterfly production facility/office locations, third-party testing lab locations or vendor/partner locations as needed.

Ability to travel required. * Performs related duties as assigned Requires broad training in fields such as business administration, sales, supply chain or similar vocations generally obtained through completion of a four-year Bachelor's degree program or equivalent combination of experience and education. A degree in Supply Management or Supply Chain logistics preferred. Normally requires a minimum of three (3) or more years directly related and progressively responsible experience.
