Role Overview

Coupang is looking for an enthusiastic Product Analyst to join our Search and Discovery ("S&D") team. This role offers a great opportunity for individuals eager to advance their careers and embrace new challenges.

As a Product Analyst, you will act as the "customer in the room", working directly with Senior leaders, Product Managers, Data Analysts, and Engineers located on the West Coast. (Mountain View, CA, or Seattle, WA). You will frequently collaborate with the S&D team members in the Asia time zone. Your primary responsibility will be to understand the customer's intent behind a specific search query, advocate for the customer's intent to engineers and product managers, and evaluate impact of solutions that are designed to satisfy the customer intent. You will leverage data-driven analysis to identify trends, measure performance, and provide actionable insights that drive continuous improvement in search technology. For example, you might analyze search query data to identify common patterns and user behaviors, then use these insights to recommend changes that enhance search accuracy and relevance.

The ideal candidate will be an experienced analyst proficient in both Korean and English, with strong executive communication skills. The candidate should be a fast learner, working with minimal guidance, using sound judgement in a fast paced, goal-oriented, and ever-changing work environment. They must possess strong prioritization skills to manage a high volume of complex tasks autonomously and attention to detail. The candidate will be a ruthless problem solver with excellent presentation and communication skills, able to respond effectively and efficiently while maintaining flexibility and grace under pressure.They will proactively deliver data-backed opinions to stakeholders, ensuring the timely and successful delivery of projects or efforts.

Key Responsibilities

• Analyze search result to understand the customer's intent (semantic intent and cultural context) behind the search query
• Evaluate whether top search results satisfy the search intent and suggest ways to express the intent to help discover good alternative items from Coupang's catalog
• Find, document, and track hundreds of similar search defects(a case that search result does not satisfy customer intent) in a short amount of time
• Utilize analytics/technology tools to understand the root causes of search defect and map it to the respective part of search stack
• Find error in model, define the error/issue type, and quantify the size by type which provides guide for improving the model performance
• Bring customer's voice into discussions to help the team understand customer pain points (e.g., what a customer expects to see when searching for kimchi - 5 kg pack, 1 kg or 200 kg based on cultural context)
• Master how search system works, including algorithms of scorers, search fields, and parameters

Basic Qualifications

• Strong data-driven problem solving skills with focus on understanding the root causes
• 2+ years of professional work experience in product quality/experience analytics or data engineering
• Strong written and verbal communications in both English and Korean
• Bachelor's degree in mathematics, statistics, computer science, or a related field
• Proven to effectively present own idea and influence multi disciplinary product teams including engineers, product managers and data scientists
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel (E.g. VLOOKUP function, pivot table analysis)
• Proficiency in writing queries via SQL
• Willingness and ability to learn up-to-date search technologies quickly
• Minimum of two years of experience in Microsoft Office Suite applications and Google Workspace
• Capacity to work with different international time zones and overtime, as needed

Preferred Qualifications

• Ability to think out-of-box to solve problems by breaking traditional tradeoffs
• Proven track record of establishing mechanisms to streamline processes and establish structure.
• Good understanding about how search system works
• Proficiency in Traditional Chinese

Pay & Benefits

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. At Coupang, your base pay is one part of your total compensation.

The base pay for this position ranges from $88,000/year in our lowest geographic market to $190,000/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on several factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
