JOB BRIEF

Under direct supervision of the Produce Manager, the Produce Clerk

  • Wet Rack provides customer service. Assists customers, cleans, fills and rotates the perishable (produce) displays. Must be able to lift 50 lbs, bend, stand and stoop for prolonged periods.

DESCRIPTION OF TASKS:

The Produce Clerk

  • Wet Rack will begin their shift by assessing the product on the floor to determine the needs of the

department. The Produce Clerk

  • Wet Rack will dispose of the produce that is no longer viable for sale by taking it to the garbage chute by the back dock. The Produce Clerk

  • Wet Rack will obtain new produce from the refrigerator or dry stock area in the back of the store. They will load the items in boxes and bags on to roller carts and bring the produce to the floor. It may be necessary to move pallets of product in the storage area using a pallet jack.   • Wet Rack will then stock and rotate the produce on display. The Produce Clerk

  • Wet Rack is also responsible for cleaning all of the produce area and is available for price checks as register assistance.

DUTIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Provides customer service in a friendly, fast, and efficient manner.

  • Properly rotates and extracts all spoiled items

  • Handles all damages and spoiled products according to company policy and assists in controlling the level of

damaged goods.

  • Assists in checking and verifying product department orders and shipments when required.

  • Assists in properly rotating items and verifying prices.

  • Assists in keeping refrigerated cases and display shelves properly stocked and faced at all times according to product movement and department standards.

  • Follows department sanitary procedures and work methods to extend product life cycles.

  • Adheres to all company and produce operations standards, policies and procedures, following all health, safety and sanitation standards.

  • Performs other related duties and responsibilities as required or requested.

EDUCATION/TRAINING/EXPERIENCE/LICENSE REQUIRED:

Experience

Grocery produce experience is a plus.

Preferred Field of Expertise

Ability to follow company customer service procedures.

Demonstrated prior customer service skills or related experience.

Ability to multi task in a fast paced environment

Skills

Communication- written and oral skills ( Bilingual English/Spanish a plus )

Problem identification and resolution.

M. STOOPING:

Bending the body downward and forward by bending the spine at the waist.

Frequently, cleaning or moving product. may also stoop while stocking product.

Above shoulder height- Frequently while cleaning, stocking or rotating produce.

Below shoulder height- Frequently required while stocking product area, loading product onto pallets, dumping refuse.

To move entire body along a surface with hip/knee flexion and arm extension/flexion.

He will ensure that a variety of product is fresh and appealingly displayed for our customers while maintaining great customer service. JOB DUTIES * Stock product ensuring proper grading, rotating, crisping, trimming, wrapping, watering and company sanitation practices are followed. * Cut, trim, and wrap product. * Prepare (trim) and package product for display and resale; rotate merchandise to maintain freshness; check tags and signs for correct prices. * Shovel ice from ice machine. * Be knowledgeable in and able to differentiate between all of the various types of produce merchandise including taste, preparation method or use, and price differences between varieties of similar classes of products (i.e., types of apples, potatoes, etc.). * Fill and build displays; make sure product is priced accurately. * Exercise safe food handling practices. * Breakdown pallets to load carts or baskets to transport to sales floor. * Receive, unload, and put away daily loads from delivery and store product in designated area to protect product quality. * Process merchandise according to production guidelines and follow established sanitation standards. * Handle damaged and spoiled products according to company policy and assist in controlling the level of damaged goods. * Maintain the cooler, freezer, equipment, and work area to the sanitation standards of the company. * Monitor cooler and display area temperature to ensure product quality; report refrigeration failure immediately. * Ensure sales and work area are swept clean, orderly, and free from safety hazards; report hazards to management. * Comply with all safety policies and procedures and exercise proper safety practices when lifting or moving product or using equipment. * Able to operate and clean department equipment and tools. * Adhere to all local, state, and federal health and civil code regulations. Secondary Job Duties: * Assist in checking and verifying produce department receiving when required. * Restock and use supply items efficiently to eliminate waste and to maintain the lowest supply cost. * Sweep floors, clean utensils, work tables, wipe counter tops, and display cases. * Keep display cases, cooler and freezer organized and clean; clean walls, fans, drains, and equipment. * Comply with all company policies and procedures. * Present favorable impression in dress, personal hygiene and business attitude. * Notify management of associate theft, customer shoplifting, unauthorized mark downs or property defacement. * Other duties as assigned by management.
