Farmingdale State College invites applications for a Biology PRODiG+ fellow. The fellowship is designed to provide post-doctoral students interested in an academic career with a mentored experience within the academic area of Bioscience. Over the course of the two-year fellowship, fellows will be engaged in teaching to include a combination of lower division and/or upper division biology courses based on expertise (e.g. majors Introductory Biology I & II, non-majors' Biology, Anatomy & Physiology, Microbiology, etc.), with an expected teaching load of two to three courses per semester. In addition, the position will expose the fellow to departmental committee work, student advisement, and/or curriculum development. The successful candidate is encouraged to engage in scholarly research and apply for relevant grants. This position will provide the fellow with direct mentorship from a faculty member within the Biology Department, as well as available campus-wide mentorship opportunities. Following the PRODiG+ fellowship candidates would be eligible to apply for a tenure-track position at FSC.

Requirements:

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

To participate in PRODiG+, candidates are required to:

  • Be eligible to work in the United States without a visa sponsorship.

  • Have a PhD in a field related to biology from an accredited institution completed prior to start date.

  • Demonstrate personal, academic, and/or work experience engaging with diversity, equity, and inclusion and/or a commitment to facilitating and enhancing diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts in the campus community. Such experience may include, but is not limited to, an academic/scholarly track record focused on diversity, equity, and inclusion; work, volunteer/ unpaid/community service; or related experience/expertise in serving underserved or vulnerable areas and/or populations.

  • Ability to relate to and work with students in various aspects of their academic pursuits.

  • Excellent written and oral communications skills.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Preference will be given to candidates who are:

  • Current SUNY students, alumni, and/or Fellows.

  • From a low-income background (e.g., Pell-eligible as undergraduates), were first-generation college students (students whose parents have not earned a bachelor's degree), have overcome adversity, are AmeriCorps alumni, or are veterans.

Additional Information:

This is a 12-month Temporary position.

  • SALARY: $65,000 + $3,400 in downstate location pay = $68,400 Total Compensation.
