Overview

The Product Development Engineer is responsible for development and routing of electrical designs and electrical component packaging.

  • Develop 3D designs and component packaging through team of designers.

  • Support Senior Team Lead Product Development Engineer and Team Lead Product Development Engineer.

  • Responsible for participating in design reviews, completing action items, and assisting with issues closure.

  • Develop design from concept to product launch.

  • Perform in a team environment and collaborative atmosphere

  • Responsible for quality, cost, and deliver objectives for the respective design.

  • Ensure design release package fully complies with Navistar's checking process and guideline.

  • Support vehicle build events at various assemble plants.

Position Purpose and Requirements

Provides technical and analytical support to Product Development Engineering. May provide direction and guidance to less experienced team members. Refers problems that cannot be resolved to the next level. Serves as a central resource with design, process, manufacturing, test, quality and marketing as the product(s) move to production and distribution. Involvement may last throughout all stages of a product's lifecycle including modifications, upgrades and maintenance of the product or product line.

Basic Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or Engineering Technology

  • At least 2 years experience in product design/development

OR

  • Master's Degree in Engineering or Engineering Technology

Additional Requirements

  • Qualified candidates, excluding current Navistar employees, must be legally authorized on an unrestricted basis (US Citizen, Legal Permanent Resident, Refugee or Asylee) to be employed in the United States. Navistar does not anticipate providing employment related work sponsorship for this position (e.g., H-1B status)
  • Ability to travel 25% - domestic and international

Desired Skills:

  • Thorough knowledge of product development process

  • Knowledge of quality tools and their proper use, including dFMEA, Global 8D, APOP, Six Sigma

  • Experience with manufacturing processes in vehicle assembly plants is a plus

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, highly motivated, organized and self-disciplined

  • Ability to work in a team environment and with customers/suppliers

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Products, including Visio

Required skills: design, release and implement Electrical Wiring for Vehicle Electrical systems using design software like NX integrating networks, power, ground and signal (2 yrs); develop Vehicle Electrical Architecture and its maintenance throughout the usable new product development lifecycle using Mentor Graphics, NX, Team Center, PLM, Capital Integrator (2 yrs); design and develop vehicle power, ground, and signal distribution strategy using, Integrator Topology with Mentor Graphics, NX, NDP, CDMS (2 yrs); provide Wire Sizing & selection, Fuse selection, Voltage drop calculations, component selection for wiring harness to protect from mechanical stress, thermal overload & electromagnetic interference defined as per requirement using Mentor Graphics, Capital Logic, Harness XC, NX, NDP, Capital Integrator (2 yrs). Up to 25% travel required; must live w/in normal commuting distance to Lisle, IL.
