As a flexible member of the Supply Chain team, the Procurement Specialist will work closely with our test engineering teams and will develop relationships with stakeholders throughout the organization. We are looking for self-motivated and high-energy individuals to support the vital work of diverse Viasat teams through:

  • Soliciting RFXs, negotiating for and procuring a wide range of both custom and Commercial-Off-the-Shelf (COTS) commodities in accordance with Federal Acquisition Regulations and Defense Federal Acquisition Regulation Supplement (FAR/DFARs)

  • Collaborating and communicating with engineering, supply planning, manufacturing, compliance management, quality assurance, and others

  • Interfacing with key internal stakeholders to understand their sourcing needs, perform market research, and assist in the execution of the procurement strategy

  • Evolving and managing the supplier base

  • Continually monitoring suppliers within assigned areas to achieve procurement targets in price, delivery, and quality

  • Facilitating process improvement/change initiatives

  • 3+ years of procurement/purchasing/sourcing experience

  • Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Skilled user of Microsoft Office suite of business software is required: Word, Excel, and Power Point

  • US government position. US citizenship required

  • Ability to travel up to 10%


  • Working knowledge of Federal and Defense contracting requirements (FAR/DFARS/ITAR)

  • Experience in an entrepreneurial, high-tech environment.

  • Experience with supplier relationship management within a low volume high mix environment

  • Experience with ERP system, Oracle or similar

  • Experience with PLM, Agile or similar

This role will ensure adherence to procurement processes and will be a focal point for procurement transactional operations as well as procurement metrics/analysis. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES * Support the Global Procurement Team and GIA Stakeholders on procurement related topics/initiatives. * Maintain the procurement process to meet or exceed business needs in a timely and efficient manner. * Process requisitions/purchase orders in a timely manner. * Support the business users by being available to assist with questions or challenges with requisition and purchase order submissions * Process new vendor requests in a timely manner. * Support the business users by being available to assist with questions or challenges with new Vendor Requests * Proactively monitor orders to mitigate delays and expedite as necessary. * Monitor, track, and report on supplier performance. * Maintain systems in terms of vendor enablement, contract and catalog management. * Participate in process improvement projects and input to central led projects. * Support Procurement training of Workday for new hires and in all business site rollouts when required. * Provide Procurement reporting on a regular basis. Make recommendations to the Sr. Manager of Global operations for on-going improvements. * Assist in managing the business card process. * Provide administrative support to the department as needed. * Develop & maintain procurement metrics (KPIs, benchmarking & SLAs) in conjunction with the wider procurement team. * Pro-actively seek cost saving opportunities by analyzing current operations and data in collaboration with the category owners & internal stakeholders. * Develop and maintain supplier scorecards and ongoing performance. * Other duties as assigned. TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES (Knowledge, Skills & Abilities) * Experience in purchasing with sourcing competencies or transferable knowledge preferable. * Strong analytical skills. * Ability to cope with a large number of contacts both internally and externally. * Willingness to learn, practice new tools and ability to deal with changing environments (e-procurement, e-auctions); * Strong organizational skills. Must be able to work independently as well as part of a team. * Excellent grammar, written and verbal communication skills. Any other language skills are desired. * Strong computer skills utilizing software such as Microsoft Office Suite, e.g., MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint; and e-mail. * Ability to maintain and foster sensitivity and respect for a culturally diverse work environment. * Ability to display supportive behavior and communicate positively regarding department goals and objectives. * Ability to deal effectively with a variety of personalities to establish and maintain effective working relationships. * Ability to prioritize and resolve conflict when necessary. * Willingness and ability to travel domestically and/or internationally, if needed. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE * Bachelor's degree in a business, supply chain or related field or equivalent experience. * Two to five years of related experience in an office environment preferable (recent graduates considered). * Experience in ERP and procurement software preferable (Workday, FourthShift, Scout, Suplari & Salesforce).
