Position Summary:

The Procurement Specialist is responsible for placement and execution of the purchasing orders with Lyells supplier network at Seattle or San Francisco site. The position is a point person to capture user needs for external goods and services, obtain quotes, and execute orders with the external suppliers. The position will work closely with the Shipping & Receiving, Inventory, Procurement, Finance etc. teams to ensure seamless requisition to pay process flow.


Essential Functions:

  • Obtain and understand user needs for specific lab consumables or services
  • Identify existing or new supplier sources and obtain competitive quotes
  • Analyze received quotations, select or recommend new suppliers.
  • Utilize procurement systems and tools to place and maintain purchase orders
  • Drive the reconciliation GR/IR process
  • Resolve invoice or other PO discrepancies
  • Ensure that required consumables and services are purchased to meet agreed lead times and take corrective action as necessary
  • Keep accurate pricing records and familiarize with supplier offerings and details
  • Develop and maintain an understanding of market conditions impacting the life science industry

Preferred Education/Experience:

  • Min. 5 yrs of relevant experience in procurement within life science industry
  • BS degree

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Excel and Powerpoint skills,
  • Knowledge of procurement tools and ERP systems a plus
  • The position will work closely with other functions within Operations, R&D, Finance etc. and therefore a strong service mindset and team play is essential

Amazon Global Logistics (AGL) supports Amazon's strategic vision by bringing worldwide cross-border product selection at the lowest price to our customers and helping sellers and vendors (manufacturers, distributors and brand owners) navigate international trade and logistics. We design and build products and programs with a focus on customer, seller, and vendor experience, and global scalability. We're looking for exceptional product leaders to join our team. As an AGL Procurement PM intern, you will support the Amazon Global Logistics Procurement team in developing and deploying strategies to dramatically improve cost and lead-times for cross-border movements. Perform spend analysis, benchmarking, supply market analysis to establish a baseline for performance. Assist in the management of tender processes and analyze RFQ results. Prepare and execute negotiations, finalizing outcomes through preparation of Work Orders and contract approvals for freight forwarders, small parcel, rail, ocean and air carriers. Additionally, during your internship you will dive into Standard Work, Innovation and Continuous Improvement through an intern project. Responsibilities: * Conduct initial supplier assessments and Requests for Information (RFIs) to support market understanding * Assist in coordinating supplier-facing commercial activities such as tenders and supplier development projects. Manage diverse stakeholder groups including Amazon business owners and suppliers; act as a point of contact for supplier escalation and queries related to activity * Analyze RFI and RFQ responses. Benchmark rate information versus historic pricing and versus competition. Model different scenarios in terms of impact on cost and performance, make recommendations, and support leadership in making award decisions * Develop and maintain a commodity price trackers and outlook (e.g., fuel, shipping) to support category strategy * Support the development and application of cost models / clean-sheet models * Perform supplier spend analysis, including reporting to establish visibility of spend patterns by category, region, and supplier. * Support Business Owners on execution of contracts and Work Orders, liaising with Legal, Tax, Finance, and Risk as required * Obtain data and stakeholder input to support supplier performance reviews. * Identify, review and report on supplier metrics and savings for category activities.
