Procurement Specialist

KBR has an immediate need for an energetic and dynamic Procurement Specialist at its Sioux Falls, SD location. KBR, headquartered in Houston Texas, is the primary contractor to the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) for performing work at the Earth Resources Observation and Science (EROS) Center near Sioux Falls, SD.

Job Description

The Procurement Specialist's role is to facilitate the requirements coordination, document preparation, communication, tracking, and disposition of both USGS and contractor-specific procurement activities. This person is responsible for requesting cost estimates, writing and overseeing the preparation of the procurement package, and researching and answering questions, as needed.

Candidates must be highly motivated, well organized, have excellent communication skills, and have a strong teamwork emphasis. Candidates must also be able to integrate into a highly skilled Information Technology Team and work under the supervision of the Lead Procurement Specialist.

This position description does not include every duty or responsibility the employee may be asked to perform and does not restrict management's right to assign/re-assign duties and responsibilities to this position as circumstances dictate.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
  • Develop and follow standard operating procedures for both USGS and contractor-specific procurement activities.

  • Develop and maintain all types of procurement documentation.

  • Request and analyze cost estimates for content and price.

  • Provide technical expertise and guidance on procurement activities.

  • Update the appropriate procurement tool and complete all procurement follow-up activities, as required.

  • Provide procurement and cost reporting as requested.

  • Communicate effectively with management, vendors, and peers.

  • Provide continuous effort to improve procurement activities, streamline work processes, and work cooperatively with others in order to provide quality customer service.

  • Exceptional customer service skills-able to identify and understand customer needs and ensure positive results.

Other Desired Skills:

  • General awareness of IT hardware and software is beneficial, but not required.


  • Associate's degree in Business or a related discipline preferred. A high school diploma coupled with additional specific experience equivalent to that of an Associate's degree may be accepted.

  • The candidate must be able to obtain and maintain a national agency check and background investigation after hire to obtain a badge for facility access and user accounts.

  • The candidate must have prior 3 year U.S. residency

Work Environment:

  • Work will be performed primarily in an office environment.

VIEW JOBS 8/23/2020 12:00:00 AM 2020-11-21T00:00 JOB PURPOSE: The Procurement Planning and Process Lead will work in a dynamic, fast-paced environment to assist the procurement and supply chain team in the design, development and implementation of sourcing strategies. These strategies will bring opportunities to facilitate the implementation of various initiatives with a focus on year-over-year cost savings, inventory reduction, and vendor programs. You will help the organization achieve its goals through finding sourcing solutions for products at the lowest total cost and best quality while not compromising on-time delivery. You will also find yourself analyzing data in your pursuit to identify potential areas for improvement in the business. As Midco grows you may also be asked to represent the procurement and supply chain team by participating in the planning phases of a product development. KEY FUNCTIONS: * Manage direct engagement with suppliers, and collaborate with internal teams, to drive success of the centralized procurement strategy. * Cultivate and leverage strong vendor relationships to facilitate favorable supplier negotiations and commitments in the area of cost savings, quality resolution and delivery escalations. * Drive and lead continuous improvement by remaining curious, identifying obstacles, develop plans and successfully navigate the implementation of plans through clear communication and accountability. * Assist in the review of current contracts and purchasing volumes to ensure most competitive pricing. * Manage the supplier bidding or RFX process from discovery, creation, submission and data driven proposal. * Assist with re-negotiations of business and/or service agreements. * Participate in the performance evaluation and supplier corrective action implementation as required. * Facilitate the resolution of invoice discrepancies with internal and external stakeholders. * Monitor procurement and supply chain metrics, providing long-term perspective and suggestions on corrective actions as required to maintain desired performance levels. * Collect, interpret and clearly communicate quantitative data to support business decisions and activities. * Establish a forecast, safety stock levels and estimate product usage for internal and external planning by working in the supply change and internal team members * Collaborate across boundaries to identify excess inventory and coordinate the sale or elimination of that product. * Work in partnership with internal team members in the assessment of supplier performance through the utilization of vendor scorecards. * Manage the data integrity within various systems that are used by procurement and supply chain team to include but not limited to Great Plains, Workplace, MRP and StockIQ. * Champion standardization and elimination of waste through development, delivery, maintenance, and assist in the implementation of procurement and supply chain processes, policies, and templates. * Assist with leadership and oversite of activities to support initiatives through clear communication of expectations and holding others accountable for results. * Operate and drive a vehicle in accordance with all Midco policies including maintaining a safe driving record. * Follow and serve as a role model in displaying Midco's Core Values and Leadership Success Drivers. * Adhere to Midco's privacy guidelines to ensure each customer's privacy. * Maintain regular attendance as required by your position. EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION: * Bachelor's degree in business or related field or equivalent experience required. * 5 years minimum purchasing and supply chain experience required. * Intermediate to Advance knowledge of Microsoft Excel required. * Intermediate to Advance knowledge of Great Plain or other ERP system preferred. * Six Sigma/ Lean certification or exposure to these methodologies preferred * Telecommunications experience preferred.
