The Product Support & Logistics Division currently has an opening for a Procurement Manager located in our Morton, IL facility. In this role you will supervise a purchasing team whose activities are for a specific segment or a product line, or specific purchasing projects/programs. Provide leadership to this team of purchasing professionals to deliver local service excellence to customers. Leads efforts with material suppliers and facility Supply Chain personnel to increase supplier capability. Leads work with Caterpillar supply chain functional areas to deliver tools, processes and expertise to Caterpillar's suppliers to enable them to replenish material to Caterpillar pull trigger systems and develop the supplier plan for every part. This role is accountable for building supplier partnerships in the deployment of lean, high quality, high velocity supply chain practices. Deliver global leverage with local service excellence. Will deliver strategic improvement to deliver year over year Quality Cost Logistics Development Management (QCLDM) performance improvement and therefore create value through an improved supplier base.

JOB DUTIES:

  • This position works with suppliers to build lean supply chain capability in the areas of material replenishment to facilities, improved Sales and Operations Planning, high-velocity throughput, optimized logistics and capacity planning.

  • Incumbent leads efforts to verify and improve supplier capacity, quality and delivery performance for a supply base. This position leads collaboration with suppliers and multiple facility functions to address and resolve supplier issues using root cause and corrective action (RCCA). This position integrates efforts with facility supply chain planning, purchasing, operations, receiving, Global Transportation, Demand and Orders, Material Requirements Planning and Logistics.

  • The incumbent leads efforts at suppliers to perform Supplier Value Stream Mapping, material flow improvements and preparation to respond to pull triggers. This position provides leadership (sponsorship and governance) for 6 Sigma Rapid Improvement Workshops with suppliers and Caterpillar personnel as required.

  • Incumbent leads projects to implement improved supplier collaboration with Caterpillar and third party service providers using common collaboration technologies.

  • The incumbent works closely with facility supply chain planning leaders to deploy the Supply Chain Planning Process, providing leadership (and strategic direction) to teams implementing pull material replenishment at suppliers and in the development of suppliers' plan for every part.

  • Reporting directly to the Global Category Manager, this role will be accountable for implementing a specific strategy. It will support the collaboration between category and site management supply strategies that will create a competitive advantage for our customers, while delivering local service excellence. They will be responsible for the platform liaison with the corresponding Category/Platform Purchasing Managers.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree, preferably related to Supply Chain

  • 5 years of supply chain/logistics, manufacturing operations, and/or purchasing/procurement

  • Previous experience with CPS (Caterpillar Production System) or other production system model and lean supply chain principles, specifically those applied to pull replenishment using material replenishment tools and processes, material flow, packaging and containerization, the corporate NPI process, facility product and engineering change control processes and throughput efficiency

  • Experience managing supplier relationships

Top Candidates Will Also Have:

  • A background in Supply Chain, Manufacturing/Operations, Purchasing, Manufacturing Engineering, Inventory Management, Material Requirements Planning, Demand Management and/or Logistics

  • The ability to develop and deploy creative/original solutions to complex problems

  • Thorough understanding of company policies and procedures, especially supplier-focused Caterpillar initiatives

  • Advanced understanding of supply chain planning processes and analytical tools

  • Advanced understanding of common supply chain systems, and the ability to lead and sponsor large-scale technology transformations

  • APICS CPIM or CSPC National Certification

  • Advanced analytical and problem-solving skills

  • Well-developed communication and negotiation skills

  • Solid product knowledge

  • Knowledge and understanding of 6 Sigma project management principles

This position may require travel up to 25% of the time.

The Senior Project Manager will act as the project manager, in partnership with the project owner of a GEP project, for procurement initiatives from (validated) ideation through realization, that have broad regional or companywide impact, and/or high spend/savings potential as assigned by the XGP leadership team.
