Job Summary

Provide procurement support in accordance with company procedures and strategic goals while under the direct supervisor's guidance. Assists or performs the following duties; places purchase orders; selects and negotiates with approved vendors and evaluates vendor reliability; obtains materials from suppliers at the lowest cost, with consideration to quality, reliability and urgency of need; schedules deliveries and follows up on orders to expedite delivery and shipment; obtains certifications of delivery and approves payment invoices for orders placed.

Maintain records and files as needed. Perform basic analytical tasks and industry research.

Minimum Qualifications


  • College Sophomore, Junior, or Senior level in Supply Chain Mgmt., Business, Management, Accounting, Finance, Economics, or Marketing.

  • Minimum GPA of 2.5.

List any specialized training or unique skills required:

  • Working knowledge of computer software such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Powerpoint and Internet.

Please note that this Internship opportunity will be located at our Administration Office in Downer's Grove, Illinois. A remote assignment is NOT available!

Job Duties

Source and create purchase orders for items in accordance with established company policies and procedures. Purchase Orders to be reviewed and released by Purchasing Agents.

Assist Purchasing Agents in the bid and evaluation process. Serve as liaison between Procurement and Accounting resolving invoice issues. Sit in as observer on negotiations with suppliers conducted by Purchasing Agents.

Provide files for proper electronic filing of contract and maintain files for bids as required for audit purposes as well as historical activity. Assist Purchasing Agents by reviewing terms, conditions and pricing. Perform routine and repetitive duties independently and according to the established procedures and practices. Performs more complex assignments with direct guidance from supervision.

The Procurement Specialist - Subcontracts facilitates through the procurement process the timely and economical acquisition of standard and complex products and services required by the scientific, operations, and construction organizations of Argonne National Laboratory within legal constraints of the regulatory procedures and statutes. A successful candidate would be expected to have experience delivering exceptional customer service as well as have attention to detail. Position Requirements * Knowledge of applicable procurement regulations and established procurement policies and procedures. * Knowledge of negotiating orders, evaluating and selecting vendors, determining appropriate costs and price, and processing closeouts on all types of purchase orders and/or subcontracts. * Ability to complete price and cost analysis. * Knowledge of the characteristics of products and services being procured. * Knowledge of planning, scheduling, and program control as well as authoring, administering, terminating, and closing out awards. * Skill in interpersonal relations. * Demonstrated ability to clearly & concisely convey information through verbal communication. * Demonstrated competency in creating clear and concise written documentation that fully summarizes all aspects of a procurement transaction. * Experience working with commercial procurement is highly desired. * Ability to model Argonne's Core Values: Impact, Safety, Respect, Integrity, and Teamwork. * This level of knowledge is typically obtained with a Bachelor's degree and 2+ years of applicable experience or equivalent.
