Position Title: Procurement COE- Project Manager

Reports to: VP- Sourced Finished Goods

Location: Norwalk, CT

Job Summary:

The Newell Brands Procurement Center of Excellence is tasked driving five keys areas across Newell Brands $10B+ of Procurement Spend. These five areas are: Project Management Office, Procurement Analytics, Procurement Execution (P2P), Supplier Development, and Capability Building. During this transformational time at Newell Brands, the COE is focused on bringing process and structure to maximize the delivery of value of Procurement to the Business.

As part of the Procurement Center of Excellence, the Project Manager will be responsible for managing, under supervision, a cross-functional team to execute strategic sourcing activities. Activities will include but are not limited to: RFI/P/Q execution, product transfers, asset transfers, recapitalization activities, VAVE opportunities and repatriation initiatives. The objective will be to deliver activities to cost, schedule and scope requirements.

Job Duties:

  • Develops and maintains timing and action plan for projects

  • Monitors project profit and loss (P&L) and key drivers that affect overall program financial health to ensure projects meet established objectives (e.g. margins, costs, revenue, etc.)

  • Understands what program success is and drives path forward to achieve success in the timeliest and cost effective manner

  • Follows best practices to attain project scope excellence to cross-functional team clarity of vision, goals, and expectations

  • Coordinates necessary data acquisition to provide strategic direction for solving problems

  • Uses a systematic approach to identify problems, conduct root-cause analysis, and implement solutions

  • Prepares project status and risks to provide proper level of detail and recover plans

  • Challenges and provides constructive mitigation strategies

  • Supports cadence and techniques to run efficient meetings

  • Participates on cross-functional teams to work seamlessly across boundaries of company, culture, and geography for successful project execution

  • Follows standardized guidelines and templates to ensure robust project plans and maintains documentation

  • Collaborates with team members to identify project risks and recommend potential mitigation plans

  • Collaborates with cross functional team to develop timing and action plan for projects


  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, science, mathematics or related field required

  • 5+ years' of experience in project management (consumer products experience preferred) with a minimum of 2 years in a managerial related role

  • Demonstrates familiarity with basic structured project management methodologies (e.g., Critical Path)

  • Demonstrates familiarity with basic manufacturing processes and production planning

  • Demonstrates effective problem-solving and analytical skills

  • Demonstrates basic business financial knowledge

  • Demonstrates proficiency in project management tools such as Microsoft Project as well as Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, SharePoint)

  • Demonstrates ability to manage constructive and cooperative working relationships

  • Demonstrates sensitivity and acts appropriately with varying cultural societies

  • Demonstrates ability to support the needs of and interact appropriately with cross-functional personnel

  • Demonstrates excellent written and verbal communication skills and presentation skills

  • Demonstrates self-confidence

  • CPSM, CSCP or related professional designation highly desired

  • Experience with currency and commodity tracking

Responsibilities Position Overview The Sr. Project Manager will sit in the PMO, report to a Portfolio Manager and add to our high-performance PMO organization. The Sr. Project Manager will manage enterprise-wide business projects using established project methodologies. The role will involve planning, execution, and finalization of projects according to strict deadlines and within approved budgets. The Sr. Project Manager will coordinate the efforts of internal team members and external partners in order to deliver projects according to plan. Responsibilities: Day to Day Project Management: * Participate in the project planning activities and manage the execution of projects according to plan. * Manage relationship with project stakeholders, including internal and external partners, keeping stakeholders informed of progress and issues in order to manage expectations on all project requirements and deliverables. * Proactively identify changes in work scope and ensure appropriate planning measures are taken with internal and external stakeholders to reassess and amend the scope of work requirements, budget and timeline. * Analyze risk, establish contingency plans and identify trigger events and responsibilities for initiating mitigating action. * Ensure adherence to HSUSA's Project Management policies and specifically follow the HSUSA process for managing projects and required deliverables. Ensure documentation is complete, current, and stored appropriately. - Relationship Management * Coach to clarify assignments and deliverables to project team; review quality of work and manage integration of team members' work; provide performance input to project team members' functional management. * Continuously seek opportunities to improve communication and streamline processes. Look to effect positive changed in project management processes through personal effort and influence within team/unit. * Keep track of lessons learned and share those lessons with team members as appropriate. * Work closely with and utilize tools and reporting as designed by the Finance, Planning and Analysis team. * Track scope and priority changes and their impact on the cost/timeframe of the project delivery. * Assure project legal documents are completed and signed. * Finance Management Qualifications Job Requirements: * Bachelor's degree in related discipline or equivalent experience required * 10+ years of proven record of successfully applying project management controls to manage large * scale global initiatives through all phases of its life-cycle.
