The Procurement Category Manager's emphasis in the packaging area is accountable for all technical aspects related to sourcing packaging related items for North American sites. Technical expertise is required to drive change, develop and execution of category strategies, ensuring optimal specifications of items are used, engaging with supplier base and internal cross-functional teams. You will be accountable for costs savings ideation and delivering against individual, department and company annual targets.


  • Understands technical requirements within packaging complex and other assigned categories.

  • Develop, recommend and execute procurement strategies for assigned categories.

  • Take an active role and work with internal stakeholders(R&D, Operations, C&D, Marketing, Pricing, etc.).

  • Provide market price updates and relative market intelligence information to internal stakeholders as required.

  • Maintain contracts and commitments in a timely manner to understand financial exposure.

  • Identify and implement cost savings opportunities within the total supply chain of assigned categories.

  • Develop, recommend and submit annual budget numbers for assigned categories and monthly updates.


  • Bachelor's degree in Packaging Engineering, Packaging Science or related discipline.

  • 2+ years' experience in procurement/ technical support in packaging function within consumer packaged goods or food industry. 5+ years' experience, preferred.

  • Understanding of technical specifications of packaging materials relative to its intended uses and markets of packaging and other assigned categories and the supply/demand fundamentals that make up price risk management.

  • Basic understanding of accounting practices and the effects of hedging on COGS.

  • Understands the relationship between price movement and specific risk to the business.

  • Participates in cross-functional teams to champion change throughout the organization.

  • Ability to understand/communicate/present and execute complex procurement strategies.

  • Demonstrates ability to work within a cross functional matrix environment where responsibilities are layered throughout the organization.

  • Ability to successfully participate on multiple projects simultaneously.

  • Knowledge of contract management and resolution procedures.

  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.

  • Proficient with MS Office, advanced Excel skills preferred.

  • Travel 5-10% may be required

This position manages assigned purchasing agents, purchasing managers and other purchasing employees interfacing with engineering management, estimating management, design management and construction management. Duties also include but are not limited to: negotiating with equipment vendors, material vendors, subcontractors and service providers, while consulting with corporate attorneys and senior management when necessary. Long-term relocation and short-term assignments are a requirement of this position. If assigned to the project site, the position will be operational in nature dealing significantly with field issues at active projects. Primary Responsibilities * Oversee and plan all aspects of purchasing from pre-bid to closeout. * Represent company in negotiating contracts and formulating policies with suppliers, subcontractors and professional service providers. * Negotiate commercial terms and conditions with equipment vendors, material vendors, professional service providers and subcontractors; consult with corporate attorneys and senior management to minimize project and corporate risk while maintaining commercial competitiveness. * Monitor and oversee execution of the purchasing buy-out. * Direct and coordinate activities of personnel engaged in buying and/or estimating materials, equipment, subcontract and professional services. * Oversee staff training. * Liaison between Procurement and Construction/Engineering. * Locate and assist in the evaluation and qualification of vendor materials and equipment, subcontractors, and professional service providers. * Process requisitions and prepare purchase orders for supplies and equipment. * Assist in the development and implementation of procurement and contract management instructions, policies and procedures. * Maintain records of goods ordered and received. * Provide feedback to assist in analyzing market and delivery systems to assess present and future material availability. * Resolve vendor or contractor grievances and claims. * Review purchase order or subcontractor claims and contracts for conformance to company policy. * Oversee administration of online purchasing systems. * Communicate and enforce purchasing policies & procedures to project team. * Provide training to ensure policies and procedures are followed. * Responsible for projections, financial planning, expediting, delivery schedules and project purchasing reporting. * Oversee the development and review of all procurement analytics, reporting and deliverables. * Long-term relocation and short-term field assignments will be required. Qualifications * Proficient in Microsoft Office (Power Point, Word, Excel) with general knowledge of database utilization.
