JOB DESCRIPTION SUMMARY

The Procurement Agent/Buyer at Florida Polytechnic University plays a critical role in managing and overseeing the purchase of goods and services essential for the university's daily operations and long-term success. This position is responsible for the strategic sourcing of high-quality and cost-effective supplies, negotiating with suppliers, and ensuring the timely delivery of products and services. The ideal candidate will have a strong foundation in procurement processes, contract management, and supplier relationship management.

JOB DESCRIPTION

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develop and implement procurement strategies that align with the university's objectives.

  • Conduct market research to identify potential suppliers and evaluate their offerings.

  • Negotiate contracts with suppliers to secure advantageous terms.

  • Oversee the procurement process from requisition to delivery, ensuring compliance with university policies and regulatory requirements.

  • Manage supplier relationships, including performance evaluation and conflict resolution.

  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to understand their procurement needs and specifications.

  • Maintain accurate procurement records and prepare reports on procurement activity.

  • Identify opportunities for cost savings and process improvements within the procurement function.

  • Ensure ethical procurement practices and adherence to sustainability goals.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs):

  • Proficient in procurement principles, practices, and methods.

  • Strong negotiation and contract management skills.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with vendors and internal stakeholders.

  • Ability to analyze data and market trends to inform procurement decisions.

  • Knowledge of applicable laws and regulations related to procurement and contracts.

  • Proficiency in procurement software and systems.

  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.

  • Commitment to ethical procurement practices and sustainability.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Supply Chain Management, or related field.

  • At least one (1) year of experience in procurement or purchasing within a complex organization.

  • Experience in higher education procurement is preferred but not required.

  • Demonstrated understanding of procurement processes, contract law, and supplier management.

  • Must have legal authorization to work in the United States without the need for sponsorship.

REQUIRED LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS, AND/OR OTHER SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS OF LAW:

  • Must possess a valid driver's license.

  • This position requires a criminal background check, which may include a Level II screening as required by Florida Statute §435.04.

  • This position is subject to federal and state privacy regulations.

NORMAL WORK SCHEDULE: This position is salary exempt. The normal work schedule is Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m., however, occasional overtime (weekends and evenings) may be required. Travel between campuses may be required.

TARGET HIRING SALARY: $50,000 - $55,000
