POSITION SUMMARY:

Prepare and process musculoskeletal tissue and dermis for surgical implantation. The process requires the use of aseptic technique, machinery, instrumentation and equipment to evaluate, cut, shape and package tissue that meets specification. Responsible for performing human tissue processing activities in accordance with FDA regulations, AATB Standards and SOPs.

Hours: 1st Shift, Monday - Friday, 6:00 AM - 3:00 PM

Pay: From $18.00 an hour and based on experience

ESENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Package and label transplantable tissue

  • Assemble, disassemble, inspect, clean, maintain, and monitor equipment and instruments used in processing.

  • Package and prepare supplies and equipment used in processing.

  • Maintain a clean and safe working environment at all times. Follow general laboratory and OSHA bloodborne pathogen standards.

  • Ensure appropriate QC samples are collected during processing, labeled appropriately and handled in such a manner to ensure traceability and quality.

  • Perform lab support functions, set-up and breakdown of rooms, collect environmental samples, handle donor tissue, and maintain supplies and equipment on a daily basis.

  • Operate steam autoclaves for sterilization of instruments, equipment, and consumable supplies used in the processing of tissue.

  • Operate a lyophilizer, bone mills, band saws, CNC machines and other pieces of equipment used in the production, packaging and storage of tissue.

  • Safely prepare and use germicides, sporacides, other cleaning solutions to disinfect and clean surfaces according to protocol.

  • Safely dispose of hazardous and nonhazardous waste generated during the manufacturing process

  • Accurately complete paperwork and perform data entry where required.

  • Maintain a proficient working knowledge of AATB Standards, cGMP/cGTP, and CRT Policies and Procedures.

  • Maintain confidentiality of donor and recipient information.

  • Assists in performing scheduled preventative maintenance and maintaining the calibration of processing equipment.

  • Complete annual training.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES:

  • Ability to read, write, and comprehend information and to effectively communicate information to colleagues at various levels.

  • Ability to apply knowledge and skills to complete assigned work within own area.

  • Recognizes problems and uses existing procedures to assess solutions.

  • Basic computer skills including knowledge of Microsoft Office products (Word, Outlook, etc.) required.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

  • Previous experience in processing human tissue for surgical implantation preferred.

  • High School Diploma or GED Equivalent

  • Prefer knowledge and understanding of Good Documentation Practice (GDP), Good Tissue Practice (GTP), Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP), and American Association of Tissue Banks (AATB) regulations.

WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMAND:

  • Must be able to stand for 80% of the working day

  • Ability to wear personal protective equipment for at least 90% of shift.

  • Must be able to lift and carry 1 to 50 lbs.
