The Julian F. Keith Alcohol & Drug Abuse Treatment Center in Black Mountain has an excellent opportunity for a Utilization and Review Processing Assistant.

The Processing Assistant:

  • performs routine administrative, clerical, and data management in support of the UM (Utilization Management/Review) staff under the supervision of the UR Nurse and/or the UR Lead.
  • assists with obtaining coverage from patient insurance companies.

The responsibilities of the Processing Assistant include:

  • ensuring that all appropriate referrals are enrolled and authorized for their bed dates as appropriate and/or that any insurance, Medicaid or Medicare information is available for the UM staff to file.
  • facilitating the flow of work and coordinating office support activities with other staff.
  • maintaining internal and external contacts for work coordination.
  • understanding issues, identifying problems and taking opportunities to determine the appropriate course of action.
  • updating and possibly creating tables, charts, and/or other informational displays using current computer software such as Excel, Word and Power Point.
  • following policies and protocols defined by LME/MCO for patients entitled to benefits under the Medicare and Medicaid program.
  • enrolling patients in the providers systems.
  • ensuring that all appropriate referrals are enrolled in the LME/MCO system and authorized for their bed dates are entered in the HEARTS system and/or follow up on tracking and entering information into the HEARTS system (or comparable system).
  • gathering patient information from the units daily for initial authorizations, continuing stay reviews, and discharges while prioritizing the information to meet deadlines within a fluid environment.
  • organizing and following up on outstanding patient information needed for UM reviews and working with departmental staff to locate the information in a timely manner.

A working knowledge of:

Skill in:

  • office and technical tasks required to process patient information, documents and materials in support of UM processes.
  • processing information for entry into various systems used by the UM department.
  • organizing and interpreting multiple forms of information to determine most efficient manner to get information for department.

The ability to:

  • demonstrate and apply this knowledge of program services, policies, and procedures.
  • explain and interpret program information to clients/customers and staff.
  • present ideas in written form; adjust language or terminology to meet the needs of the recipient(s); use correct grammar, organization and structure.
  • utilize office equipment and technology (software and systems) to meet work needs.
  • understand office or work unit policies and procedures to communicate information involving programs, functions, and services.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and one year of administrative experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
