Process Technician

SUMMARY OF POSITION:

The Process Technician will provide technical support for the molding operations including preparation, set-up and troubleshooting of machines and secondary operations. Confer with direct Supervisor and/or Shift Lead. Examine work to detect production defects.

JOB DUTIES & ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Under minimal supervision, performs various duties related to the manufacturing process, which includes monitoring various manufacturing systems, collecting and reporting data, maintaining, and troubleshooting equipment and processes to ensure quality and efficient production in a safe work environment. Performs various duties to support the manufacturing function. Sets up production tools and auxiliary equipment in a timely manner to ensure minimal downtime.

• Regularly checks system to ensure process compliance within specified parameters in injection molding presses, paint, and robotics systems, and makes required adjustments, replacements and/or repairs to maintain process capability.

• Sets up production tools and auxiliary equipment in a timely manner to ensure minimal down time.

• Communicates with other department personnel as necessary to coordinate and ensure accurate and timely job activities.

• Assists in and may perform troubleshooting process, equipment, tooling and material issues related to production, maintenance or engineering and reports findings. May also maintain robot programming software.

• Assists in a continuous effort to maintain a hazard free work environment by monitoring procedures related to materials and chemicals used in processing.

• Prepares chemicals, paints and other agents for processing and careful and correctly dispenses them to meet all safety requirements.

• Maintains continuous improvement by monitoring equipment and processes that includes running process trials and prepares process checklist.

• May assist on new product development and participate in the implementation of new programs and projects.

• Compiles and analyzes SPC charts to determine process capabilities and decides when to execute appropriate corrective action to maintain customer quality levels.

• Assumes supervisory responsibilities in the absence of the Production Supervisor

Knowledge:

• Production and Processing

• Knowledge of raw materials, production processes, quality control, costs, and other techniques for maximizing the effective manufacture and distribution of goods.

• Design

• Knowledge of design techniques, tools, and principles involved in production of precision technical plans, blueprints, drawings, and models.

• Mechanical

• Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance. Hands on experience using measurement devices, i.e. calipers, micrometer, height gage, etc. Knowledge of Statistical Process Control (SPC) procedures and applications.

• Education: High school diploma

Experience: Three to four years of related work experience; additional education may be substituted for experience. Must be able to work and function in a team environment. Requires knowledge of mechanical reasoning related to understanding equipment, machinery, and their primary functions.

• Be able to adjust the controls of a machine quickly and repeatedly.

• Read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Write routine reports and correspondence. The ability to effectively communicate.

• Must be able to regularly lift and/or move up to 55 pounds and sometimes lift and/or move up to 75 pounds.
