Role Summary

Provides technical support to production personnel in all phases of manufacturing. Participates in continuous improvement activities to reduce cycle time/down-time due to set-up, change-over, processes, and/or tooling. Troubleshoots, identifies, and implements equipment/process needs/improvements in work cell layout, process flow, work standards, etc. Minimizes machine downtime affiliated with tooling, set-up, and/or processes. Conducts manufacturing process tests. Develops work standards for current tools, machines and equipment and maintains accurate records. Provides training/work direction to other staff. Performs other duties as necessary. The job will typically consist of machine set up / die setting (approximately 30%) and processing (approximately 70%).

At level I, work is moderately complex and difficult in character and requires project management skills. Typically requires independent problem solving and decision making with broad guidance provided on overall project objectives and with specific guidance on complexities. Decisions focus on prioritization, process and issues rather than data elements and usually involve moderate risk to the organization although results may have a long-lasting impact. Primarily involves intermediate through experienced level work.

At level II, work is complex and difficult in character and requires strong technical and broad business knowledge in addition to program or project management skills. Requires independent problem solving and decision making with general direction given on project objectives and broad guidance from corporate strategy and goals. Exercises considerable latitude in determining specific project objectives and approaches to assignment. Decisions often involve substantial impact and risk to the organization with potential for long-lasting results. Primarily involves senior/advanced level work.

  • Analyzes, troubleshoots and improves manufacturing processes

  • Develops and revises processes for new programs.

  • Analyzes defects. Assists in solving quality problems.

  • Prepares reports summarizing defects.

  • Monitors machinery and equipment for safety and cleanliness.

  • Responsible for end-of-arm-tooling set up, trouble shooting and continuous improvement.

  • Performs start up and shut down of machines and assures that all sub-systems (water, dryers, heaters, robots, computers, etc.) are operational.

  • Responsible for minimizing downtime related to die changes and process set-up.

  • Ensure parts and supplies are available to perform job duties.

  • Responsible to ensure that process is producing parts that meet quality standards. Adjusts processes to provide continuous quality production.

  • Responds swiftly to issues or concerns raised by production team or operations leadership.

  • Correctly documents process adjustments.

  • Troubleshoots operating difficulties.

  • Properly handles and disposes of any hazardous waste material in respective areas.

  • Participates in cleaning and preventive maintenance jobs as assigned or necessary.

  • Participates in problem solving and continuous improvement activities.

  • Performs all work in compliance with Magna and Magna Sealing and Glass Systems Health, Safety and Environmental policies and procedures as well as all federal, State and local laws; promptly report any hazardous condition or workplace injury to immediate supervisor or EHS designate.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

Level I

  • Completion of the following course plus related work experience including blueprint reading skills;

  • ABB Robotic Training

  • Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot, update, and work on all equipment and systems in area of responsibility (i.e. tooling, set-up, maintenance, and manufacturing).

  • Demonstrated good interpersonal and written/verbal communication skills to communicate with internal and external contacts and work in a team environment.

  • Strong project management and problem-solving skills to work on projects independently under minimal work direction.

  • Complete training to Work Instructions in MAGnet as required under "Process Technician"
