Danfoss has an opportunity for a Process Technician 1st Shift to join us at our Ames, Iowa location in the US. The Process Technician 1st Shift will be responsible for the assembly process in an assembly cell from set-up to testing.

Background & Skills

To be considered for this position, you will need the following:

  • Minimum of an AA degree or equivalent from Technical School and 6 months related experience on Danfoss products.

  • Desire for 4-year degree in Industrial Technology, Industrial Engineering, Mfg. Engineering or ME/AgE

  • Strong mechanical aptitude and understanding of manufacturing processes.

  • Working knowledge of quality/problem solving tools (PPAP, Capability studies, PFMEA, Gauge R&R, 4-Step, 8D, Fishbone)

  • Computer skills, (Microsoft Office, PLC, test stand)

  • Ability to read and understand hydraulic & electrical schematics

  • Familiarity with TPM and SMED techniques

  • Customer Service mindset and the ability to stay calm under pressure are necessary traits.

  • Excellent safety record and approach to behavioral based safety using proper PPE are requirements.

Job Responsibilities:

Responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Demonstrate specific, significant contributions to team performance improvement, individually and as a key member of improvement teams.

  • Quality and quantity of improvement are both considered.

  • Key contributor in the RCPS process with the role "Problem Solver".

  • Investigate issues (production losses, quality problems, scrap, broken tools, safety risks, hazards, injuries, etc), problem-solve, and implement and verify solutions to eliminate recurrences.

  • Assist resolving day-to-day production issues and follow up to eliminate or minimize the need for your involvement in similar future issues.

  • Troubleshooting daily issues, fixing equipment or giving advice and instructions may be called for, but is at the direction of the Team Leader or Manager.

  • Eliminating your involvement includes eliminating the issue from recurring (RCPS), and giving others the tools resolve the issues themselves, using visual aids, SOP's, training, etc.

This position encompasses the job functions required to fabricate raw material for use in assembly using conventional, special purpose and Computer Numerical Control (CNC) lathe and mill equipment. This function is an internal supplier for our assembly areas. The position is open for 3rd Shift. Background and Skills: * High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or three months of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. * 1-year certificate in Machining or Advanced Manufacturing from college or technical school or Associate Tool & Die Degree preferred. * Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to interpret prints, read gauges and convert units from standard to metric. * Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, rations and proportions to practical situations. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations. * Understands machine M&G codes, and can recover from machine alarms without damaging equipment, tools, or fixtures. * Understands CNC machine programs. * Ability to understand/explain all machine moves within such programs. This includes thorough knowledge of all M and G codes. * Ability to utilize program knowledge in order to safely perform rework of parts as needed. Job Responsibilities: * Selects, aligns, & secures holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories and materials on machines such as CNC mills and CNC lathes. * Sets up and operates machine on trial run to verify accuracy of machine settings or programmed control data. * Starts and observes machine operation to detect malfunctions or out-of-tolerance machining. * Adjusts machine controls, cutting tools, or control media as required. * Follows safety & housekeeping standards and procedures, uses appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), looks after the safety of others. * Follows standard work procedures, self acknowledges and corrects mistakes, works to avoid errors and get it right the first time. Verifies conformance of finished work piece to specifications. Understands proper use and care of all gages and inspection equipment used in the cell used to verify conformance of work piece to specifications. * Meets or exceeds productivity goals, manages time wisely, stays on task requiring little supervision to get the job done. Confers with engineers, production personnel, programmers, or others to resolve machining or assembly problems. * Follows attendance guidelines, rarely absent or late, pre-schedules and pre-approves absences. * Physical Requirements: While performing the duties of this job the employee frequently works near moving mechanical parts. The employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles and toxic or caustic chemicals. The noise level in the work environment is at a level the company recommends hearing protection. * Specific safety training and SAP training will be provided on the job.
