Job Role Summary

ExxonMobil is seeking candidates for a Process Safety Engineer role at the Baytown Complex located in Baytown, Texas. The successful candidate will join the Baytown Security, Safety, Health & Environmental Department, and will collaborate with Operations, Engineers, and Management to facilitate safe operations at the Baytown Complex. The Process Safety Engineer will also provide technical mentorship to various engineering disciplines.

Job Role Responsibilities

  • Maintain and ensure a safe working environment at the site, ensuring compliance with all safety, health, environmental requirements

  • Participate in and lead Process Hazard Analysis (PHA)

  • Provide technical support and lead PHA and Safety Relief Review follow up items

  • Facilitate Risk Assessments for PHA and Safety Relief Review follow up items

  • Facilitate "Ad Hoc" Risk Assessments as needed/requested

  • Review operations performance as requested by Operations

  • Perform process safety review/approval as part of the Management of Change (MOC) process

  • Participate in Incident Investigations as requested

  • Collaborate with applicable Process Safety networks to maintain safety leadership and share best practices

Job Requirements

  • B.S. in Chemical Engineering or equivalent degree

  • A minimum of 5 years of direct process safety or process design experience

  • Excellent verbal & written communication skills and problem solving ability

  • Solid understanding of refinery processes

  • In depth knowledge and experience with process design and safety standards

  • Good engineering judgment; ability to recognize, assess, and mitigate hazards

  • The ability to work in a dynamic, team environment, fostering collaboration within the organization, and also engage an individual contributor to apply safety and risk management tools

  • Demonstrated ability to handle multiple priorities and stakeholders

  • Working knowledge in carrying out process economic evaluations

Preferred Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

  • Strong analytical and communication skills

  • Demonstrated work experience in supporting downstream operations

This position prevents process safety related incidents through successful development and implementation of operational safety functions. Provide technical support and expertise Covestro-wide for the process safety and risk management program to meet corporate and regulatory requirements. Perform, facilitate and document Process Hazard Analyses, pre-start up safety reviews and other process safety reviews for existing units as well as projects and AFEs within Covestro. Conduct PSM audits and monitor completion of audit recommendations. Lead or support domestic and global safety initiatives as assigned. Major tasks & responsibilities: * Provide operational safety leadership and support for assigned production units and regional sites * Process hazards analysis * PSSRs for day-to-day process changes * Non-routine risk assessment (work permit) * Assure action item implementation * Job Safety assessments * Regulatory support * Lead incident investigations * Turnaround safety reviews and walkthroughs * Review of level II work plans * Identify and implement applicable PSM and RMP requirements and interpreting other OSHA industry regulations for assigned areas * Conduct technical training * Support and coach developing PPS engineers * Support HSEQ efforts/functions within the plant site as needed WHAT YOU OFFER Minimum Requirements: * BS in Chemical Engineering or equivalent with a minimum of six (6) years' experience or an * MS in Chemical Engineering or equivalent with four (4) years' experience in the chemical or petroleum industries in process safety * Expertise in hazard identification and mitigation required * Demonstrated ability to read, comprehend, and use P&IDs, material balances, equipment and layout drawings, and specifications for complex chemical processes. * Proven experience in performing, facilitating, and documenting process hazard analysis using detailed, systematic approaches * Strong, effective communication and presentation skills. * Chemical facility operation experience is desirable.
