We currently have an exciting opportunity for an Entry level or Senior level chemical engineer to coordinate our Process Safety Management system and help us deliver our vision by applying hazard analysis methodologies to address flammable gas/vapor, or reactive chemistry hazards. The ideal candidate is a self-motivated, creative thinker who shares our passion for making the world a safer place. You will join our extraction engineering team which performs process hazard analysis (PHA) on a variety of processes for the nuclear industry. A successful candidate should have a strong background in identifying, characterizing, and mitigating hazards associated with combustible dusts, flammable gases and vapors, and reactive chemistries. The position requires strong analytical and organizational skills. The candidate should also be able to demonstrate excellent technical writing skills and be able to record technical discussions about process hazards.

The responsibilities will include:

  • Provide leadership and vision for continuous improvement with regards to PSM /RMP program

  • Develop strategic plan for implementing and strengthening PSM / RMP program

  • Facilitate involvement and participation of all applicable organizations within WZ to establish, implement and accomplish the appropriate plans to meet organizational goals related to PSM / RMP compliance.

  • Develop and maintain records system for documenting PSM /RMP compliance

  • Establish and maintain strong foundational knowledge of relevant codes and standards

  • Develop, track and report on actionable recommendations for PSM / RMP program.

  • Lead PHAs and PHA revalidation efforts for PSM covered processes.

  • Coordinate "management of change" PHAs.

  • Able to understand and interpret regulation codes like NFPA 30, NFPA 36, NFPA 69, NFPA 86, NFPA 70, NFPA 499 and other related codes.

  • Perform self-assessment audits of applicable W.Z. organizations for compliance with relevant PSM / RMP requirements.

  • Analyze and appraise plant performance to specific elements of PSM /RMP to ensure accomplishment of established requirements and organizational goals.

  • Write, review and/or modify administrative procedures pertaining to each element of PSM /RMP.

  • Coordinate and document PSM / RMP training for W.Z. employees and contractors.

  • Provide guidance on requirements of site PSM / RMP processes to employees and contractors.

  • Coordinate / administer Change Management Process for PSM /RMP - related equipment and processes.

  • Maintain effective, constructive relations with organizations and support functions to facilitate mutual achievement of PSM / RMP requirements.

  • Ensure compliance to applicable laws, regulations, codes and policies consistent with our mission of conducting ourselves with openness, integrity, and respect for the individual and society.

  • Direct the efforts of multiple work groups provide appropriate cross-training opportunities to build PSM expertise within WZ.

  • Minimum Requirements

The successful candidate for this position will possess the following:

  • Bachelors degree in Engineering required, preferably Chemical, Mechanical or Environmental.

  • 3-5 years experience working in a chemical plant or similar industry preferred. However, will consider new grad.

  • Knowledge of environmental and safety regulations, including Process Safety Management and Risk Management Planning Regulations preferred

  • Ability to build relationships and influence organizations to accomplish goals and requirements

  • Skills in formal problem analysis/resolution techniques such as HAZOP, what-if, etc desired

  • Proficiency with drawings, process flow diagrams, P&IDs, and other engineering drawings.

  • Proficient with computer software, i.e. Microsoft Office

  • Effective communication skills - oral, written, presentation

  • Ability to read and comprehend drawings and equipment specifications

  • Results oriented
