Position Details

General Statement
Reporting to the department chair and supervised by the Dean of the College, the Tenure-Track Process Plant faculty will support the mission, purpose, and goals of City College at Montana State University Billings. Responsibilities include teaching up to 30 credits for the academic year of program specific and program-related coursework. The Process Plant faculty will collaborate with peer program instructors to ensure courses and curriculum meet student and business needs, as well as academic advising of program students, retention, and resource development activities, in addition to delivering courses and teaching.

Duties and Responsibilities
General
Vigorously upholds a culture of academic integrity.
A commitment to continuous quality improvement.
Oversee the operation of the Process Plant Technology program, while keeping the program in compliance with industry needs.

Teaching
Instructional preparation and teaching of assigned courses in curriculum.
Facilitate the learning process that creates a safe non-threatening climate which supports learning across the curriculum.
Participate in assessment of student learning activities to maximize the potential for students to learn what is necessary to meet program outcomes.
Teach up to 30 credit hours per year onsite in classroom and laboratory settings.
Teach courses and material including fluid processing, AC/DC electronics, digital electronics, PLCs, instrumentation, process control, quality control, electrical and process diagrams, industrial safety.
Collaborate with related programs who share curriculum, courses, and teaching responsibilities such as Instrumentation and Electrical Technician.
Support student success including office hours and advising.
Improve and refine curriculum and course content to meet the needs of industrial partners.
Assess student learning at the course, program, and institutional level.

Service

Collaborate with related programs who share curriculum, courses, and teaching responsibilities.
Develop and grow program to increase student enrollment, grow graduate placement, and help our industrial partners fill their needs for skilled workers.
Build and maintain industry partnerships including serving as chair of a Process Plant advisory panel for the program.
Engage in student recruitment activities.
University service including participating in committees and activities.
Community service includes participating in community events and volunteer activities.
Serve on committees, task force(s), and special projects contributing to the growth of the Program, City College, and Montana State University Billings.
Scholarly Activities
Participate in professional organizations.
Maintain appropriate certifications and licenses.
Maintain proficiency in teaching and specialty expertise.
Maintain expertise in trades education.
Attend selected professional development activities.
Serve on civic engagement projects.
Maintains currency in Process Technology education through the review of relevant journals, abstracts, and scientific literature to include existing and emerging technologies, including underlying educational principles.

Required Qualifications

  • Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills

Education Required:

AAS is Process Plant Technology.
Bachelor's degree in related field from an accredited institution.

Experience Required:

Minimum three Years experience in related field.
Current relevant work experience in a process facility or any of the following regionally relevant industries: petroleum refining, natural gas processing, mineral refining, bio-fuels, food processing, chemical manufacturing, power generation, or paper manufacturing.

Preferred Qualifications

Education Preferred:
Master's degree is related field.

Experience Preferred:
Teaching experience at secondary, post-secondary, or trade school.
Demonstrated experience teaching with a Learning Management System (i.e. Desire to Learn).
Experience using a variety of teaching and assessment techniques to enhance student success.
Educational background in instructional methodology.
Experience with teaching traditional and non-traditional students from diverse backgrounds.
Demonstrated experience in using computer simulation.

Special Requirements

Physical Demands

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Requires sufficient mobility to work in a college with hands-on programs and operations, operate office equipment, able to lift, push or pull at least 50 lbs. Additional physical demands may include: stooping, kneeling, crouching, and reaching overhead and horizontally, repetitive hand movements, sitting for extended periods of time, and 4-6 hours of screen time per day.
