This role is part of Blue Origin Operations, which is comprised of Integrated Supply Chain, Facilities, and Security. This includes Manufacturing and Supply Chain support across all Blue Origin facilities.

As part of a diverse and hardworking team of experts,, you will be responsible for supporting the Cleaning, testing, and processing of various rocket engine hardware and assemblies. As a Process Manufacturing Engineer, you will implement new processes, evaluate process compatibility and support transitioning processes to production. Focus will be on quality and repeatability, with special focus on cleaning, contamination control, and chemical processing of aerospace hardware. As an integral member of the team you will use data to drive process improvements, relay engineering requirements, and support manufacturing processes.

Responsibilities:

  • Define, develop, implement, and optimize chemical cleaning processes of rocket engine components.

  • Conduct fabrication DFMA and PFMEA studies to improve the robustness of cleaning processes.

  • Determine cleanliness levels for hardware and environmental requirements to maintain cleanliness.

  • Manufacturing support of internal customers, including work instruction generation and troubleshooting of work instruction.

  • Improve tooling concepts and equipment for cleaning and NDT inspections of rocket engine hardware.

  • Establish processes to maintain cleanliness of hardware through manufacturing, processing and testing.

  • Support root cause analysis when non-conformances are identified and deploy corrective actions.

  • Develop and implement processes to comply with industry standard test methods for chemical compatibility, cleaning, and passivation.

  • Summarize, document, and communicate testing results to stakeholders.

  • Develop, maintain and improve standard work for complex manufacturing processes.

  • Collaborate closely with internal customers (M&P engineers, technicians, manufacturing engineers, management and design/analysis engineers) to define requirements and align tools to meet company objectives.

  • Provide manufacturing engineering support of non-destructive test group.

  • Develop and mature chemical processes to support company goals.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Passion for our mission: Millions of people living and working in space!

  • Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering, Materials Science Engineering, Mechanical, Manufacturing, or Aerospace Engineering (other relevant fields may apply) from an accredited university.

  • 3+ years of process or manufacturing engineering experience working on chemical processing or contamination control.

  • Familiarity with fine or precision cleaning, verification, passivation, AMS 2700 and IEST-STD-CC1246.

  • Familiarity with non-destructive testing (NDT) methods and techniques.

  • Proven experience and successful track record developing/starting new processes.

  • Strong written, personal, technical, and software skills (CAD, Scheduling, Issue Tracking, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Minitab, Outlook, etc.)

  • Ability to develop processes compliant to industry quality systems such as AS9100.

  • Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and contribute to a culture of inclusion

  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.

  • Flexibility with regard to occasional support of second shift and travel.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience creating, developing and maturing processes to production readiness level.

  • Experience with common manufacturing and fabrication processes.

  • Experience with aerospace materials and compatibility with various chemicals.

  • Understanding of typical aerospace quality processes.

  • Understanding of the types of materials and processes used to fabricate aerospace components.

  • Experience generating technical specifications to govern manufacturing processes.

Compensation range for on site WA applicants is $69,840-$97,776
