Process Manager
Where the Chemistry Happens:
This position is in charge of management of all Blackman facility process engineering activities and the engineering department employees. In charge of the MOC including the scale-up process, responsible of the pilot plant, responsible for the data in PLC in relationship with NP and the production, manages investment projects in time, costs and quality with internal or external resources and assures state of the art technology with the project leader, supports and coordinates any transfer of production to BMT, makes proposals to improve production based on the study of the products and the production equipment (process improvement), and assures the application of the company policy (e.g. SHE-standards incl. RC especially RC5, Near misses, 5-S, quality norms incl. ISO).
Formula for Success:
MOC - Scale-Up
Based on data from product launch and process/development reviews data for production: product family, related kettles, min/max, BOM, process instructions
Defines what type of method for the scale-up : copy of data, lab trial, pilot plant trial or follow-up in production
Defines the MOC process at BMT and ensure the process is meeting the needs of the site and is compliant with site requirements. Ensures KPIs are available for all departments and met for engineering staff.
Informs back the NP lab if the new or modified product cannot be manufactured in BMT or if any data must be changed (control plan, recipe, process instruction)
Fills in the related documents (scale-up report)
Organizes the production trials in the pilot plant and plans with the Production Supervisor any normal production in small quantities based on the rules defined by BMT
In case of official change of a product formulation, checks with the planners if any production order is planned or if any product is in stock to either let the product sold or makes a rework or let dispose it
Coordinates the change of recipe in case of rework
PLC Data Maintenance:
Investments
Is responsible for the implementation of state of the art technology and processes
Manages investment projects in time, costs (cost responsible) and quality with internal or external resources and the fulfilment of laws, rules and proceedings
Is responsible to plan, schedule and manage capacities effectively in conjunction with the plant (production) requirements and the specification sheet (when needed)
Studies, assists and guides (conformity, standardization) each "project manager" for the preparation of the specification sheet and the choice of suppliers
Accountable for ensuring that all operational procedures and user manuals are up to date and available for introduction of new equipment
Is responsible for preparing the Investment budget proposal in cooperation with the other departments, the follow up of actual costs and the forecasting
Supports the financial department regarding the follow-up of asset accounting
Applies NAFTA harmonized standard process and equipment
Transfer of production.
Process improvement
Based on existing data and equipment makes proposal to improve safety, productivity and quality with the focus of the reduction of the costs
Identifies opportunities for improvement (constructive suggestions) and effective implementation of innovative changes
Management
Manages staff of engineering department: proposes training sessions, carries out prospective interviews and actualize the job descriptions
Is a major actor for the application of the policy from the company in relation with Q&SHE (e.g. SHE standard 1-5, Near Misses, 5-S)
Assures the execution of the 5-S methodology on site respectively in his area
Tracks and traces the relevant KPls (key performance indicators) regarding his activities and targets
Ensure all department documentation and design is available and in compliance with RC and other BASF requirements. This position is the RC Chapter 5 (process safety) owner for the site.
Ensure the development and progression of department employees
Control and change of the job tasks
Can forbid the production at BMT of a new/modified product
Cannot invest in a non-budgeted equipment
Can make proposals to NP to improve the data of a product (BOM)
Ingredients for Success:
Possess degree in chemistry, chemical engineering, and/or related field
Possess significant knowledge of mechanical (equipment and piping related), electrical (including automation)
Applies knowledge about technical drawings (plans, schemes and layouts) and technical documents
Possess significant project management skills and resolve issues in a timely fashion
Applies good knowledge of safety (SHE) behavior and instructions concerning all activities on the manufacturing site and enforce the practice
Applies basic economical knowledge to be able to improve the cost/benefit situation continuously
Applies good knowledge about the standard quality management systems implemented on site, including processes
Applies good knowledge about standard software tools (Windows program package, SAP modules)
Is able to manage teams and effective utilization of each team member to her/his fullest potential
Is able to identify fields of action and understand complex correlations and is able to organize their work themselves
Is able to work under pressure without losing the track and the teamwork ability
