Role/Purpose:
The Process Improvement Engineer Jr. assists with the evaluation and improvement of manufacturing methods, utilizing lean tools and concepts applied to product design, materials, parts, fabrication processes, tooling, production equipment capabilities, assembly methods, and quality control standards.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Assist and leverage Lean Manufacturing culture on the shop floor in the design and execution of new manufacturing processes, methodologies and equipment layouts to improve overall equipment effectiveness.
Assist with developing, maintaining, and training on manufacturing work instructions utilized across production, of all product models, production lines, and warehouse activities
Support manufacturing and operational cost savings initiatives and kaizens with collaboration of other departments such as manufacturing, engineering, continuous improvement, sales, and others as required
Provide daily tactical support to Manufacturing and other operational functions related to the shop floor through continuous monitoring, interaction, and direct support request
Act as a liaison between Electrical/Mechanical Engineering and manufacturing, and support the resolution of any challenges that arise in the manufacturing process
Assist in creating an efficient, effective, and dependable set of processes focusing on the elimination of waste in all areas of the company.
Work with leadership teams to define the current and future state Value Streams to plan and prioritize continuous improvement activities.
Collaborate with the continuous improvement manager and peers to provide mentoring / training to manufacturing teams on the use and practice of Lean methodology and tools (VSM, 5S, Kaizen, SMED, "Design for Lean", MDI, etc…)
Work with CI peers to optimize work center layout, space requirements, material flow and process to improve productivity and eliminate waste
Work with planning and design staff concerning product design and tooling to ensure efficient and repeatable production methods
Assist in driving change supporting cross functional decisions by communicating changes to employees and helping them learn, understand, adjust and grow with the business's lean transformation.
Assist to optimize bench strength in manufacturing
Support new material set up, by creating as well as, updating existing production related master data such as routings and work center setup/design
What You Need to Succeed
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Ability to work within a team environment using consensus building to achieve a desired result, has excellent verbal and written communication skills
Ability to reach out to and work with other teams as required through self-motivation and understanding of process implications
Knowledge of manufacturing, warehousing, and other supporting supply chain processes preferred
Ability to safely lift 50 lbs. and work in multiple positions (ie Stand, sit, laying, squat, bend, kneeling) for prolonged periods of time
Background in Industrial, Manufacturing, Mechanical, and/or Electrical Engineering
Fluent computer skills in Microsoft Office based programs
