External Job Description

Newport News Shipbuilding a Division of Huntington Ingalls Industries is currently searching for a Process Improvement Analyst 1, to join our Integrated Planning and Production Control (IPPC) team.

This individual will focus on the Bill of Material (BOM) processes from initiation in Engineering & Design through Planning. He/she should be knowledgeable of the SAP BOM processes and system functionality used by both carriers and submarines. He/she will support the on-going process evaluations, standardization efforts, and software integration / enhancements primarily driven through the BOM Sustaining Improvement Team (SIT). This person must possess the necessary verbal and written communication skills to successfully interface with various organizations throughout the company (and various job levels within those organizations), drive agreement on standard approaches / tool usage, and present information verbally and in written / slide form.

  • Defines, designs and implements continuous improvement programs to ensure programs are integrated vertically and horizontally across organization. Defines improvement projects aligned with business strategies. Analyzes improvement programs and potential results. Facilitates and coaches improvement teams. Establishes and maintains performance metrics to measure program success. Installs process excellence supports for program governance, project reviews, communications, training, certifications and rewards. May have six-sigma certification.

Basic Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree and 0 years of experience. 4 years of related exempt experience can be substituted for Bachelor's degree. 8 years of non-related exempt experience can be substituted for Bachelor's degree. A relevant professional certification can be substituted for a Bachelor's Degree. An Apprentice Certificate or graduation from Navy Nuclear Power School can be substituted for Bachelor's degree.12 years of relevant non-exempt, Manufacturing, Military, Shipbuilding or Trades experience can be substituted for the standard Bachelor's degree requirement

Preferred Qualifications

Job function includes:

  • Central point of contact for user community questions and issues related to BOMs

  • Lead the BOM Sustaining Improvement Team (SIT)

  • Work with the users and IT to define, prioritize, and resolve system issues

  • Demonstrate software in SAP

  • Lead user testing of new software functionality and system fixes provided through IT test cases

  • Maintain procedures in accordance with QA procedure guidelines

  • Support development of guidelines / documentation for new software tools

Position resides within the Industrial Engineering Tools and Standards, Value Streams and Facilitation group. This team is aligned with the Operations' trades and above the floor process owners, supporting Lean efforts across trades and programs, maximizing craftsmen and women productivity and efficiency, and implementing improvements yard-wide. Team members also facilitate continuous improvement activities and provide suggestions and project management for those customers. The team works closely with all of the NNS Industrial Engineering organization and the rest of the Integrated Planning and Production Control and Business Transformation Division, interfacing with key decision makers across the shipyard.
