Orbital is seeking a Process Engineering Design Manager within our Engineering Division. The successful candidate will be a high performing, critically thinking, analytical, and experienced self-starter with excellent leadership skills, written and oral communication skills, customer service skills, and the ability to establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others. This position will require a growth mindset for expanding existing offerings to clients in the Chemicals and Oil & Gas industries. This position will report to the Vice President of Engineering.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develop Front End Engineering and Design (FEED) packages including Heat and Material Balances, PFDs, P&IDs, equipment lists and preliminary equipment datasheets

  • Prepare, review and/or check engineering calculations, designs, drawings and other documents on projects as required

  • Provide enhanced customer support as a technical liaison, and support organizational business development of new and expansion of existing business opportunities

  • Accelerate growth of process engineering department. Identify resource and staffing needs, lead and/or participate in recruiting and interviews, onboard new team members, establish individual goals and expectations, and conduct performance reviews

  • Supervise and review the preparation of engineering proposals including scopes of work, project schedules and cost estimates

  • Establish and execute operational plans for the department with respect to routine, tools and resources to ensure consistent operations and growth of skill sets. Identify training and career development opportunities and create plans for the department and specific individuals. Schedule, organize, direct and review all department resources and activities.

  • Develop and implement policies, standards and procedures for the engineering and technical work performed in the department. Periodically assess availability of required discipline industry codes and standards and maintain and upgrade technical standards/specifications when required.

  • Promote Orbital's safety culture through active safety engagements and compliance audits of Orbital's safety requirements, including but not limited to, employee training and site visit checklists

  • Ensure all department operational and project activities are completed in accordance with the Orbital Project Management System (OPMS) through implementation and enforcement of stated policies and practices

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Chemical Engineering

  • 15 years of experience, preferably in a consulting environment, and well-rounded expertise in heavy industrial engineering projects such as chemicals, downstream / midstream O&G and power generation

  • Successful experience in leadership roles managing engineering and design teams in a consulting engineering environment

  • Expertise in process simulation software and plant operations optimization

  • Candidate should have thorough understanding and aptitude in the use of current computer software including general MS Office products and design & business enterprise software

  • Superior communication and interpersonal skills

  • Must excel in working in a team environment

  • Occasional domestic travel will be required

Preferred Requirement:

  • Professional Engineer (PE) license
