The opportunity

Our US Natural Gas Pipeline team is evolving to meet the needs of our growing business and we are expanding our presence in Charleston, West Virginia.

We are seeking a Process Engineer who has knowledge and experience in applying engineering skills to solve a variety of gas and liquid conditioning problems, as well as participating in decision support for projects and operations. This individual should be mature, self-motivated and innovative; capable of resolving problems independently. The successful candidate will be exposed to TC Energy's diverse portfolio of natural gas storage and pipeline assets and the programs utilized to manage these assets throughout the U.S. The successful candidate will have the ability to work effectively in a dynamic environment with changing priorities under tight time constraints - with minimal supervision, be able to evaluate / analyze operating data and deliver timely and accurate interpretation to stakeholders, work as an individual and collaborate with others to achieve shared goals, and quickly learn and apply new concepts.

What you'll do

  • Provide technical support to TC Energy's gas storage facility operations, monitoring the performance and integrity of gas conditioning and processing facilities to ensure reliable delivery of customer gas to tariff provisions

  • Identify and develop cost-effective solutions to solve operating problems

  • Develop design concepts and process designs for system deliverability and reliability enhancements

  • Perform design and sizing of natural gas dehydration and separation systems

  • Perform sizing calculations for overpressure protection / pressure relief valves

  • Develop and maintain technical process specifications and integrity plans for natural gas conditioning equipment and systems

  • Check and validate vendor equipment sizing and third-party engineering calculations

  • Develop PFDs and P&IDs for modifications of existing and development of new natural gas storage plants

  • Participate in Process Hazard Analyses (PHAS) and Pre-Start Up Safety Reviews (PSSR).

  • Write process descriptions and assist in the development of project Design Basis Memorandums and operating procedures for gas conditioning and processing systems

  • Follow and ensure compliance with TC Energy's Practice of Engineering.

  • Perform other related duties as business needs arise and your skills align

  • Business travel will be required

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Chemical Engineering

  • 4 years of process engineering work experience

  • Basic understanding of natural gas hydrocarbon phase behavior and thermodynamics

  • Basic understanding of process simulation

  • Basic understanding of the concepts of process safety and risk management, including Process Hazard Analyses

  • Ability to interpret P&IDs, PFDs, and engineering piping drawings

  • Basic working knowledge of gas processing equipment, processes and associated instrumentation

  • Excellent decision-making and practical problem-solving skills

  • Attention to detail and accuracy and documentation proficiency

  • Self-starter with a pro-active approach to problem identification and resolution

  • Strong analytical skills

  • Excellent computer skills

  • Strong oral and written communication, collaboration and presentation skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Chemical Engineering; Mechanical Engineering or Petroleum Engineering degrees with applicable gas processing experience will be considered

  • HYSYS experience

  • State Professional Engineering (PE) license

This position requires candidates to

  • Have and maintain a valid driver's license and safe driving record

  • Successfully complete a pre-employment medical screening, including drug and alcohol testing

  • Travel to other company locations for temporary assignments, meetings or training which would involve some overnight stays away from home.

This position could be located in a number of multiple strategic areas that will provide support to compression facilities in Oklahoma, Kansas, Iowa &amp; Illinois. Alternate reporting locations in the surrounding area may be considered. These stations utilize a variety of compression equipment including reciprocating units and turbine/centrifugal compressor units. The position will also support balance of plant equipment within the facility including air systems, piping and valves, tanks and other systems required for reliable operation of the facility. The successful candidate must have in-depth knowledge of a variety of industrial equipment used in gas compression systems. This position will be responsible for the support of all mechanical equipment at the assigned compressor stations.</p><p>What you'll do</p><ul><li><p>Provide support to Operations on day to day issues at assigned compressor stations</p></li><li><p>Conduct root cause analysis investigations</p></li><li><p>Provide sound engineering to determine cost-effective solutions to urgent problems such as compressor startup problems, compressor shutdowns/faults, coolant or oil contamination, capacity deficiencies; gas conditioning - drip gas, water, dirt ingestion; station piping problems (support, vibration, excessive pressure drop, etc.), auxiliary system malfunctions (including ESD)</p></li><li><p>Identify, scope, estimate and engineer 'break fix' projects to repair failed systems, machines and/or components</p></li><li><p>Identify, scope, estimate and engineer capital and maintenance projects to provide long term solutions for facility defects and systemic issues</p></li><li><p>Provide diagnosis, support repairs, and perform root cause analysis for significant failures and abnormal operation events</p></li><li><p>Provide operational and maintenance recommendations based on: oil and coolant analysis, performance and vibration test results, enterprise analytics notifications (remote condition monitoring system), and borescope inspections</p></li><li><p>Verify adequate capacity of pressure limiting and overpressure protection devices</p></li><li><p>Provide code interpretation services or coordinate third party reviews for issues and installations regarding compressor stations</p></li><li><p>Assist with PHMSA audit preparation and response</p></li><li><p>Provide support for facility audits to insure compliance with company standards, policies and procedures, and governmental and industry codes</p></li><li><p>Engineering design standard development</p></li><li><p>Operations supplement development</p></li><li><p>Provide expert witness testimony in various forums regarding compressor operation and engineering issues</p></li><li><p>Provide facility expertise throughout the project scoping and design process including participation at 30%, 60% and 90% design reviews</p></li><li><p>Technical support for project team during facility construction and commissioning activities</p></li><li><p>Approve pipeline test data reports</p></li><li><p>Determine spare parts requirements</p></li><li><p>Perform gas loss calculations</p></li><li><p>Develop project specific blow down and purge plans</p></li><li><p>Provide subject specific on-the-job training</p></li><li><p>Provide compressor related information/data to a wide variety of stakeholders</p></li><li><p>Provide mentoring for the field teams in accordance with the established procedures of the technician qualification and operator qualification (OQ) programs</p></li><li><p>Be actively involved with the process safety, practice of engineering, management of change, and root cause analysis programs.
