The Role:

The Paint Process Engineer will be the technical subject matter expert of their assigned process. He/she will be expected to determine the most effective method(s) of processing while improving cycle times, reducing downtime, lowering cost, and driving improvements in overall Paint quality in order to ensure the continued performance of the process.

Responsibilities:

  • Understand assigned process area and associated equipment.

  • Ensure assigned process is capable of meeting specified requirements.

  • Continually monitor process Key Performance Indicators (KPI's)

  • Assess/analyze current processes and drive improvement projects for Safety, Quality, Throughput, and Cost.

  • Ensure critical process parameters are properly documented and tracked using Statistical Process Control (SPC) methodologies.

  • Ensure appropriate TPM systems are in place and appropriate actions taken to maintain the facility in good operating condition.

  • Establish, maintain, and ensure compliance to process Control Plan per PFMEA.

  • Continually monitor key product characteristics.

  • Interact with Quality team to correct, contain, and resolve product quality concerns.

  • Support new model/product/material introductions in coordination with Design Engineering, New Product Introduction team, Quality, and other parties as needed.

  • Lead engineering techs in day to day operations of their process.

  • Create process plans, bid packages, and project specifications.

  • Procure equipment, track budget costs, and project schedules.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing/Industrial, or Chemical Engineering or other Engineering discipline.

  • Ability to apply fundamental engineering principles to identify and drive non-standard solutions to solve manufacturing constraints.

  • Comfortable providing clear and focused technical guidance to outside engineering resources, as well as the Production Team

  • Ability to work in rapidly changing environment with minimal guidance, self-starter, yet team player.

  • Ability to manage one or more projects involving cross-functional teams.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills when working with internal groups and outside vendors.

  • Proficiency in AutoCad, Catia, or Solid Works is a plus.

  • Good overall people management skills.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office suite of programs.

VIEW JOBS 9/14/2020 12:00:00 AM 2020-12-13T00:00 The Role: Reporting to Tooling Engineering Manager, the Tooling and Process Development Engineer leads all tooling & process engineering activities for the assigned part numbers and related components. Responsibilities: * Responsible for Engineering of Cast and Trim dies for all assigned High Pressure Die-cast components * Proficient in die design with optimized runner & gate, thermally balanced inserts, and highest possible vacuum efficiency to produce structural components using water free lube * Manage die suppliers using Project Management best practices during die build programs, keeping project within time and budget * Lead die builds, design approvals and die buy offs from Tesla Tooling Engineering * Responsible for process development of all new dies produced for Tesla Casting operation until production process parameters are established * Create process documentation of all new dies/inserts using standard Tesla format * Create required work instructions and documentation * Create critical spares inventory with min, max and order quantity * Involve in DFM process with Tesla product design team for new and existing parts * Able to provide simulation models and read simulation reports with good understanding of flow simulation software such as Magmasoft & Flow 3D, with * Optimize tooling performance by utilizing applicable surface coatings and materials to improve die life and reduce/eliminate soldering. * Incorporate design features that facilitate quick die change. * Utilize Poke Yokes to prevent errors & mistakes * Perform dimensional analysis; implement corrective actions to improve dimensional capability. Complete understanding of casting tolerances and GD&T * Involve in maintenance of dies by providing Engineering support as needed * Collaborate with Tool & Die team to address all production issues related to Tooling * Maintain die design/documents database with timely updates as needed * Lead ECO implementation for assigned dies until final approval * Perform thermal balancing of dies using thermal(Infrared) cameras and thermal mapping * Create control plan working with quality department * Continuous improvement activities for dies and processes * Create and close of JIRA work tickets as needed * Troubleshoot systematically for downtime and scrap issues using RCA methods * Establish strong and positive working relationship with other departments * Commitment to be a strong team player * Willing and flexible to travel * Willing and excited to share work environment that includes office and manufacturing plant floor Qualifications: * Bachelor of Science - Mechanical or Industrial Engineering * Related experience in the High Pressure Die-castings in the automotive industry * Proficient in Die Design with experience in gating and thermal design * Proficient in 2D and GD&T * Experience with 3D modelling with proficiency in CATIA V5 * Experience with flow simulation software * Knowledge in Lean Manufacturing * Project Management skills Tesla Motors Fremont CA
