Process Engineer

Manager, Operations


  • Analyzes process data to identify cost savings and process improvement opportunities.

  • Understands the process of producing finished product and provides support to improve current process.

  • Improves and administers proper documentation within the department.

  • Manages process recipes and supports MOC process in department.

  • Analyzes root cause of department related QPIR and SPIR investigations.

  • Engineering Support Use of software and calculations to support good decision making within the department staff.

  • Operation Support Must maintain Basic Knowledge (Qualification) of the Extraction Battery, Evaporation, Mixing, and Spray Dryer Operations.

  • Troubleshooting Support Must provide support teams with knowledge of equipment to troubleshoot issues and determine root cause.

  • Computer Aptitude Must be capable of using MS Office applications and computer based software applications to report quality information, downtime, and scheduling

  • Processing Project Support Support Processing department during shutdowns and start-ups. Work with contractors to complete installations and checkouts. Project support includes receiving quotations from vendors, working with technology and engineering on cost savings opportunities, and preparing Capital Request Forms and all Project required documentations.



  • Bachelor's degree required, B.S. in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering highly preferred


  • 0-2 years of similar experience


  • Manufacturing experience, preferably in food

  • Sensory training, culinary experience, recipe development, tolerance testing

  • Project management skills

  • Problem solving ability

  • Solid inter-personal skills

  • Ability to teach and lead others

  • Open to managing operating teams as needed (as backup or future assignment)

  • Can work off shift or weekends as needed

VIEW JOBS 10/24/2018 12:00:00 AM 2019-01-22T00:00 Job Summary The Process Engineer's primary responsibilities include providing technical support to manufacturing floor operations, leading investigation teams in solving complex manufacturing investigations, supporting technology transfer teams, identifying opportunities to improve systems and practices, oversee and execute process validation, specifying and procuring manufacturing process equipment and providing technical training of manufacturing personnel. The Process Engineer will also recommend process and operational changes to overcome process issues, avoid deviations, and improve productivity; conduct thorough investigations and data analysis to identify root causes for deviations and investigations, implement corrective and preventative actions and change controls; and prepare and/or manage the preparation of manufacturing batch records and SOP's in support of process improvements and technology transfer. Key Duties Technical Support * Provides daily on-the-floor technical support. * Oversees and leads and process monitoring/SPC review processes. * Identifies and drives implementation of improvements to maximize throughput and capacity utilization. * Leads process scale-up efforts. * Responsible for procurement and start-up of manufacturing process equipment. * Tracks, trends and communicates process performance metrics. * Analyzes and interprets data from manufacturing operations. * Identifies areas of process risk, identify, assess and implement risk mitigation strategies. * Writes and reviews batch records, summarize process data, perform data tracking and trending. Training/Compliance * Promotes "Right First Time" philosophy for all manufacturing activities. * Provides on floor technical training to manufacturing personnel. Identify and advance continuous improvement initiatives. * Participates in change controls and product deviation investigations. Validation * Leads manufacturin process validation and verification efforts. * Provides technical support for the execution of validation protocols and technical studies. * Possesses an understanding of the principles related to the validated states of the process and process equipment. Deviation Management * Ensures manufacturing staff identify and document events that deviate from normal operation; supports deviation investigations. * Completes investigations, reports, and proposes CAPA for minor deviations. * Provides technical leadership in process-related investigations. Qualifications Basic Qualifications: * BS in Biochemical Engineering (or similar) with a minimum of 7 years industrial experience. Masters degree in sciences with 3+ years process equipment design, scale-up implementation & validation experience. * Demonstrated understanding of biologics process development, scale-up and validation. * Excellent problem solver and ability to generate innovative solutions to broad range of issues. * Good understanding of experimental design and statistical process evaluation. * Ability to explain complex technical issues to other functions in clear and understandable terms. Preferred Qualifications: * Expertise in one or more upstream or downstream process unit operation design typically used in biotech manufacturing (cell expansion, fermentation & cell culture, harvest / clarification, purification). * In depth knowledge of biotechnology process engineering and technology development and tech transfers and their practice in a commercial manufacturing operations. * Ability to evaluate new technologies/techniques. * Excellent people leadership and change leadership skills. Requirements (Physical, Mental, Environmental Demands): * Ability to walk up and down several flights of stairs throughout the work day in a multi-location facility. * Must be able to concentrate, analyze and solve complex issues throughout the course of the work day. * Ability to work on a PC including repetitive use of a keyboard and mouse for long periods throughout the course of the work day. * Must be able to lift up to 20lbs. multiple times daily. * May be required to work outside normal business hours including evenings and/or weekends to support business needs.
