PBF Energy Inc. (NYSE:PBF), one of the largest independent refiners in North America, has an immediate need at Torrance Refinery Company located in Torrance, CA for a talented Process Engineer
Provide technical expertise for a particular area of the refinery to enable the most optimum performance that will meet the company's economic, environmental and safety objectives. Provide engineering services for process evaluation, optimization of refinery operations, project design, turnaround support, troubleshooting, and testing of units.
Perform all routine engineering calculations (e.g. mass balances, energy balances, and conversion calculations).
Monitor all critical parameters at the appropriate frequencies. Discuss concerns with Operations/Unit Superintendent, as needed.
Gather, analyze, interpret and act upon all pertinent unit operations data.
Understand unit product quality issues and how to respond to them.
Highlight and upwardly escalate monitoring data that could potentially indicate failing production targets & specs.
Support operations troubleshooting efforts, and help with communication as requested, which includes field support e.g. looking at samples, helping with pressure surveys.
Generate and maintain an informational database on all pertinent process variables.
Make proactive recommendations for improving unit yields and/or optimizing energy consumption.
Ensure that the planning department is aware of all current operating constraints.
Initiate and justify new projects, additional monitoring and other improvements to the unit.
Be aware of all safety, health and environmental issues that impact the unit, the refinery and all personnel.
Support unit turnaround in preparation, execution and post turnaround follow ups e.g. identify work scope, supervise catalyst loading, and procedural updates.
Review impact of new feeds, chemicals, catalysts, additives on unit operation and product quality.
Assignments usually include one or more of the following: equipment design and development, test of materials, preparation of specifications, process study, research investigations, report preparation, and other activities of limited scope requiring knowledge of principles and techniques commonly employed in the specific area of assignments.
Prepare and follow-up on reports on catalyst life, performance, regeneration, and requirements of the units.
Make studies on the effects of operating variables on product quality, yield and profitability.
Keep and evaluate operating histories of units.
Write process specifications for problem solving, optimization, or new projects. These include process flow diagrams, heat and material balances, piping and instrumentation diagrams, equipment and instrumentation specifications, process descriptions, and instrument loop diagrams.
Provide information to evaluate the economic feasibility of projects assigned, and assist business development personnel with economic evaluation of major projects.
Provide process engineering services during engineering, construction, and startup of projects.
Participate in company network meetings and act as site Network representative as needed, support Best Practice development.
Work with vendors to understand new advancements in relevant technology.
B.S. in Chemical Engineering
Minimum of five years engineering experience in a petroleum industry preferred
Refinery technical service experience preferred
Strong customer and quality focus, effective communication skills
Capable of interfacing with cross-functional departments toward a common goal. Ability to work in a team environment.
Strong hands-on commitment. Passionate attitude with an innovative mind frame.
