PBF Energy Inc. (NYSE:PBF), one of the largest independent refiners in North America, has an immediate need at Torrance Refinery Company located in Torrance, CA for a talented Process Engineer

OBJECTIVE

Provide technical expertise for a particular area of the refinery to enable the most optimum performance that will meet the company's economic, environmental and safety objectives. Provide engineering services for process evaluation, optimization of refinery operations, project design, turnaround support, troubleshooting, and testing of units.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Perform all routine engineering calculations (e.g. mass balances, energy balances, and conversion calculations).

  • Monitor all critical parameters at the appropriate frequencies. Discuss concerns with Operations/Unit Superintendent, as needed.

  • Gather, analyze, interpret and act upon all pertinent unit operations data.

  • Understand unit product quality issues and how to respond to them.

  • Highlight and upwardly escalate monitoring data that could potentially indicate failing production targets & specs.

  • Support operations troubleshooting efforts, and help with communication as requested, which includes field support e.g. looking at samples, helping with pressure surveys.

  • Generate and maintain an informational database on all pertinent process variables.

  • Make proactive recommendations for improving unit yields and/or optimizing energy consumption.

  • Ensure that the planning department is aware of all current operating constraints.

  • Initiate and justify new projects, additional monitoring and other improvements to the unit.

  • Be aware of all safety, health and environmental issues that impact the unit, the refinery and all personnel.

  • Support unit turnaround in preparation, execution and post turnaround follow ups e.g. identify work scope, supervise catalyst loading, and procedural updates.

  • Review impact of new feeds, chemicals, catalysts, additives on unit operation and product quality.

  • Assignments usually include one or more of the following: equipment design and development, test of materials, preparation of specifications, process study, research investigations, report preparation, and other activities of limited scope requiring knowledge of principles and techniques commonly employed in the specific area of assignments.

  • Prepare and follow-up on reports on catalyst life, performance, regeneration, and requirements of the units.

  • Make studies on the effects of operating variables on product quality, yield and profitability.

  • Keep and evaluate operating histories of units.

  • Write process specifications for problem solving, optimization, or new projects. These include process flow diagrams, heat and material balances, piping and instrumentation diagrams, equipment and instrumentation specifications, process descriptions, and instrument loop diagrams.

  • Provide information to evaluate the economic feasibility of projects assigned, and assist business development personnel with economic evaluation of major projects.

  • Provide process engineering services during engineering, construction, and startup of projects.

  • Participate in company network meetings and act as site Network representative as needed, support Best Practice development.

  • Work with vendors to understand new advancements in relevant technology.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

  • B.S. in Chemical Engineering

  • Minimum of five years engineering experience in a petroleum industry preferred

  • Refinery technical service experience preferred

  • Strong customer and quality focus, effective communication skills

  • Capable of interfacing with cross-functional departments toward a common goal. Ability to work in a team environment.

  • Strong hands-on commitment. Passionate attitude with an innovative mind frame.

(NYSE:PBF), one of the largest independent refiners in North America, has an immediate need at Torrance Refinery Company located in Torrance, CA for a talented Process Control System Engineer Job Summary: Primary responsibilities involve process control network (PCN) support, reliability improvements, coding, testing. Engineer acts in the capacity of MIS code developer, network diagnostician, cyber security practitioner with Process, Controls, and Information Technology acumen at all layers of refinery & power plant network topologies covering local area networks - business (B-LAN), virtual (V-LAN), DMZ, PCN, and real-time control nets (levels 1&2) in the Distributed Control System (DCS). Software Engineer identifies vulnerabilities and institutes reliability advances to sustain and progress asset performance. Primary Functions: * Maintain and develop software applications deployed to control and monitor manufacturing processes for production, quality, safety, and network security. * Identify, repair, test and deploy vulnerability corrections to Management Information System (MIS). Uses management of change methodologies by plant and IT for parallel testing and I&C/IT proof-tests. * Monitor and tune performance of data acquisition at network levels 2&3 down to the DCS network application program interface (net-API). * Compare commercial off the shelf (COTS) products for future capital replacement of poor performance applications. Gain customer buy-in across all disciplines in proposing replacements. * Receive Help Desk MIS and network related problem logs to address repairs. * Proactively seek reliability improvements directed at increasing software applications and network throughput with appropriate security, real-time controls, operations, and business priorities. * Work in a team environment with IT, Technical, HSE, Lab, Capital, Operations * Provides leadership and oversight for regulatory agency data collection to assure correct information is being assembled. * Track / evaluate and report Refinery key performances indicators for the information systems and analyze any improvement opportunities. * Mentor less experienced engineers and provide technical training to network and applications personnel * Provide assistance in the field during plant software and hardware maintenance * Provide troubleshooting assistance * Willing to be available outside of normal working hours to serve as technical consultant Job Requirements: * BS in Electrical, Mechanical, Chemical, Software Engineering. Conversant in process unit operations. * Programming strengths on multiple platforms * Conversant in cyber security standards: NIST, ICS-CERT, NERC, IEC 62443, ETSI * Minimum experience required is 7 years in industry supporting IT or Process Controls in a plant environment * Must possess an expertise in network and MIS applications. * Must possess strategic and creative thinking abilities. * Must possess interactive skills necessary for teamwork building.
