General Description:

The Process Engineer I is responsible to evaluate current processes and develop and maintain improvement of technically sound and cost-effective manufacturing processes in compounding.

Specific Responsibilities & Duties:

  • Promotes a safe working environment and adheres to Environmental Health and Safety procedures, company safety rules, Good Laboratory Practices (GLP's), Current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP's), Standard Operating Procedures (SOP's) in line with the company's objectives and policies at all times.

  • Conducts process capability studies on existing product and provide direction for improvements.

  • Provides a proactive technical interface with Research and Development and Compounding Department / Production.

  • Retrospectively reviews all current production processes. Assists in devising improved detailed methods for production.

  • Ensures proper documentation is completed to meet regulatory, customer, and quality system requirements.

  • Troubleshoots and works on NCRs and OOS, and Corrective and Preventative Actions (CAPA).

  • Conducts studies and experiments with materials, vendors, processes, supplier services and recommend changes in procedures to improve quality, service and or reduce cost.

  • Assists in the equipment selection, design and installation in the process development and manufacturing plants.

  • Reviews product history data for equipment and bulks to improve equipment parameters, recommend and implement changes to improve cycle time, changeovers, reduce downtime and assure safety.

  • Leads projects to drive desired results in the compounding department.

  • Reengineers processes and systems to improve compounding throughput and efficiencies.

  • Reviews formula to improve compounding throughput and efficiencies.

  • Supports growth and continuous process/documentation improvement efforts.

  • Coaches and educates compounders on the effects of mixing, chemicals, and reactions in formulations.

  • Coaches and educates R&D on the compounding equipment.

  • Gives feedback to R&D and Compounding / Production management on new product technical transfers.

  • Other duties may be assigned by Process Engineer Manager.

Physical Requirements:

  • Capable of lifting up to 25 lbs.

  • Capable of standing, walking, and sitting for extended periods

  • Occasionally walking between buildings.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering, Organic Chemistry, Chemistry and/or Biochemistry is required. MS is preferred

  • Minimum 5+ years' R&D Process Engineering role in Consumer Products; preferably in cosmetics process manufacturing or an FDA regulated industry.

  • Working knowledge of FDA regulations pertaining to over-the-counter drug manufacture, testing, validation, and documentation.

  • Experience in writing functional testing SOP's following good documentation practices (GDP) and Good Lab Practices (GLP).

  • Extensive knowledge in consumer trends, product innovations and development process.

  • Superior knowledge of product ingredient deck listing and labeling requirements.

  • Superior knowledge of rules and regulation (FDA, CTFA, PCPC) for global formulation.

  • Extensive knowledge in the aspects of Compounding, Production, Regulatory, and Quality.

  • Strong technical foundation of formulated products including emulsions, surfactants, suspensions, structured liquids, and an understanding of material chemistry is preferred.

  • Extensive Technical knowledge of chemistry, polymers, colorants, emulsions, surfactants, and other raw materials used in the cosmetic industry.

  • Required Advanced reporting, designing and data analytic skills. Strong math skills: addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.

  • Advanced PC Knowledge i.e. MS Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook) is required.

  • Demonstration of continual education. Attends seminars or reads training materials for continuing education and shows initiative in learning industry trends.

  • Ability to lead, thinks strategically, set, and achieve objectives, and influence organizational change. Strong time-management, organizational, planning people and leadership skills.

  • Constantly work to improve processes and consistently reviews all existing procedures for possible change, maintains and expands technical knowledge. Makes suggestions for improvements

  • Strong English communications skills: speaking, reading, and writing. Ability to communicate clearly and thoroughly with Management and personnel and interpersonal relationships with employees at all levels.

  • Willingness to participate in continuous process improvement, innovation, and elimination of Non-value-added tasks.

  • Demonstration of a sense of urgency in achieving goals, contributing to business objectives, and responding to company needs.

  • Teamwork: Build and sustain cooperative working relationships and has strong leadership skills and ability and support of and participation in teams, demonstrating willingness to contribute to the success of Team objectives.

  • Motivating, recognizing, and encouraging achievements and contributions of people with diverse backgrounds.

  • Good attendance record. Flexibility to work special schedules as required satisfying job requirements

  • Self-Management and Good time-management skills displays initiative, effort excellent organizational and planning skills, and commitment towards completing assignments in a timely manner.

  • Achieving thoroughness and accuracy in completing multiple prioritized projects.

  • Problem Solving: Identify options for solving a problem and evaluate the strengths and weaknesses.
