The Process Engineer will have the responsibility of evaluating and optimizing manufacturing processes and systems to improve operating capability and sustainability while maintaining safety and reliability standards. There are also several project engineering responsibilities, such as overseeing various continuous improvement projects relating to capital expenditures and lean/six sigma work. This role also involves developing best practices and proposing new equipment or modifications for the production lines.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical assistance to reduce downtime, scrap, and safety hazards. Investigate and determine solutions to equipment malfunctions and coordinate efforts to correct problems.

  • Utilize engineering principles and data analysis to reduce variation in manufacturing processes, thereby improving operating efficiency in various parameters - rates, yields, downtime, cost, etc.

  • Formulate hypothesis and recommend tests to prove theories.

  • Identify and implement opportunities for process improvement, including researching and recommending new manufacturing technologies.

  • Contribute to the continuous improvement culture and identify opportunities to use continuous improvement principles and six sigma analysis to improve yields, downtime, and cost.

  • Identify, plan, and execute project work, including lean/six sigma work, capital project requests, and management from inception through completion. Projects may span multiple facilities.

  • Develop capital expenditure requests, obtain costs, and prepare necessary forms with economic justification data.

  • Work closely with production and support personnel to develop and optimize process settings and document as Standard Operating procedures (SOP).

  • Leads in training personnel in proper and safe operation of equipment.

Skills and Qualifications

  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to methodically establish root causes of process variation.

  • Knowledge of continuous improvement methodologies and lean manufacturing (e.g., Standardized Work, 5S, TPM).

  • Background in statistical process controls.

  • Excellent communication skills for effective interaction across all levels of personnel within the organization.

  • Strong organizational and project management skills.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, VBA, CAD software (3D-CAD preferred), etc.

  • Self-motivated with the ability to accomplish tasks under minimal supervision.

  • Flexibility to work off-shift to accommodate production support needs.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree in Chemical, Mechanical, or Industrial Engineering.

  • 2-4 years prior experience in Process or Project Engineering, preferably in continuous/semi-continuous manufacturing.

  • Experience with Lean and Six Sigma tools (Green belt or Black belt) preferred.
