We are currently hiring a Carbon Process Engineer at our Hot Rolling Process Facility (HRPF) in Brackenridge, Pennsylvania (suburb of Pittsburgh). Our HRPF is a $1.2B state-of-the-art manufacturing facility that enables us to respond faster, develop new products to match our customers changing needs, and produce specialty and stainless products in unprecedented geometries. Reporting to the Manager of Operations, the Carbon Process Engineer is a subject matter expert for all areas of our carbon steel hot rolling conversion process.

Our HRPF's unique power, size card and technology creates significant opportunities for our conversion customers. A successful Carbon Process Engineer effectively links the capabilities of our HRPF to the needs of our customers to drive a total lower cost and inventory outlay for our customers - this includes hot mill set up and data interpretation, specification review, minimization of SKU's, leaning chemistries while achieving higher mechanical properties and toughness levels, customer contact, knowledge and issue resolution, building customer requirements into ATI business and technical systems and developing an excellent knowledge of carbon steel hot roll requirements and opportunities.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Have accountability & ownership of assigned products from inquiry through shipment.

  • Be the expert in all facets of carbon steel hot rolling as well as any other assigned products. This includes flow path, manufacturing set ups and controls, specifications, technical characteristics and customer requirements.

  • Develop, document and implement manufacturing, customer and product trials to continuously improve product attributes, tighten tolerances or reduce cost and flow time.

  • Interface with customer to improve product, resolve issues and grow our business.

  • Identify and develop opportunities for new grades/products or alterations of existing grades to meet new customer business specifications and opportunities.

  • Review customer inquiries to determine lowest total cost capabilities of assigned products to meet the requirements then design and implement a flow path to do this.

  • Partner with Marketing & Sales to evaluate new customer opportunities and then develop a cost competitive method to manufacture the material and win the business.

  • Occasional travel required - approximately three days per month.

Basic Qualifications

  • BS in Materials, Chemical, Mechanical or Metallurgical Engineering

Preferred Qualifications (in addition to Basic Qualifications)

  • At least three years of process and product manufacturing experience

  • Experience with Carbon Steel manufacturing and carbon hot roll processing

  • Knowledge of how processing variables determine microstructure and mechanical properties

  • Knowledge of the root causes of carbon surface quality issues and associated corrective actions

  • Experience with carbon API grades and hot roll products (including specs, applications and customers)

Skills

  • Excellent oral and written communication with the ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams and across all levels of the organization

  • Strong ability to effectively interact with our customers

  • Ability and knowledge to utilize the HRPF's unique capability to target markets, end users and customers is highly desired

  • Proficient computer background with the Microsoft Office suite (especially Excel and Power Point) and ability to adapt to company and job-related systems

Summary: We are currently seeking a Process Models Turn Engineer at our Brackenridge Operations Hot Roll Precision Finishing Facility (HRPF) in Brackenridge, PA. The Turn Engineer (TE) is the primary point of contact for PC&A opportunities at the HRPF. This position is responsible for real-time support and analysis of Process Models during operation, as part of an integrated automation team. This position includes shift work. Essential Functions: * Develop a working knowledge of the Mill Models, Control Systems and Integrated Business Systems * Monitor performance of mill setup models and control system. Make real-time adjustments to the setups and technical controls, within prescribed limits, to maintain the required performance parameters of the process. Change production schedule when adjustments are needed (alt gauge, instability, cobbles, look ahead, etc.) * Proactively look ahead at schedules for potential issues and then mitigate if necessary * Support Models and Quality Teams when needed (load plans, data analysis, etc.) * Execute and monitor trials developed by Modeling and Quality Teams * Aware of all trials and objectives * Develop weekly PQE Analysis, L1 Bypass and other reports as necessary * Support L2 / MES / RMS troubleshooting as needed * Generate Change Notices as necessary * Support all issues related to PC&A systems and users (front line) * It is ATI's policy to not provide immigration sponsorship for any of the company's positions.
