Job Description

W.R. Grace & Co., a leading manufacturer of specialty chemicals, has an immediate need for a Process Controller at its Curtis Bay facility.This position is responsible for obtaining product samples from the production process, preparing the samples for various tests, performing the tests, analyzing the results, and making process decisions based upon relevant data.This position is embedded in a GMP manufacturing site.Position is in a high-pace environment; effective communication and prioritization skills are critical to be successful in this role.Decisions made in this role can have significant financial impact on plant performance.This position will ensure compliance with environmental,health,and safety standards,as well as identifying, reporting, and resolving hazards.

  • Performs various tests in accordance to established methods, analyzes the results, and dictates any needed process adjustments in a coaching capacity

  • Interacts closely with the Operations group in a team environment to assure effective group dynamics

  • Recognizes and promptly investigates any test results not within established specifications; including monitoring/verifying key process attribute trends.Follows established protocols to address out-of-specification situations, up to and including stopping the process

  • Interacts with the Analytical Services Center for high priority samples, monitors for completed results, interprets some, and dictates process adjustments as needed

  • Inputs/retrieves information from the laboratory data management system

  • Responsible for all lab instrumentation during shift. Assures all lab instrumentation is functioning to expectations via use of standards and verification of test results, and assures regulatory compliance, including environmental and process safety,and a safe workplace for all employees.Ensures proper housekeeping

  • Manages and stocks lab supplies on each shift, up to and including ordering new inventory

Required Skills

  • Team leadership skills

  • Ability to prioritize effectively are critical attributes

  • Ability to use statistics and SPC tools to evaluate data and trends to effectively identify changes in process and/or instrumentation behavior; and responds accordingly as appropriate

  • Ability to operate analytical instrumentation, and is capable to troubleshoot simple equipment problems

Required Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in a STEM field, preferably in chemistry or chemical engineering

  • 5+ years of experience in a laboratory environment with demonstrated skills in analytical testing, quality controls testing, and /or testing product samples for specification requirements may be substituted in addition to the associates degree

  • Ability to work12-hour rotating shifts in a 24/7/365 plant (this could include nights, weekends, and some holidays)

  • Some time will be spent in a production environment near heavy machinery so position will require standing for long periods of time, and may occasionally lift up to 50 pounds

Job Description The Technician specialist is responsible for safely and efficiently performing chemical and physical analyses of samples in support of quality control, research and development and customer testing at the Analytical Services Center. The position requires working on different shifts as necessary to support operations. Duties and Responsibilities include: * Performs chemical analyses and scientific tests using both routine and special techniques in compliance with all safety standards * Responsible and held accountable for compliance with all Critical Life Safety Policies, Environmental, Health and Safety training, policies and procedures * Active participation in safety programs, along with the ability to work safely and maintain a clean and orderly lab environment * Collects, analyzes and processes laboratory samples * Records results of tests, organizes data, performs basic advanced computations, and prepares reports and analyses using standard procedures and guidelines * Installs, operates, maintains and repairs laboratory test equipment, apparatus, systems and supplies * Provides technical support to customers as applicable by lab area * Demonstrates a culture of operational excellence and continuous improvement * Ensure analytical data and services meet internal and external customer needs and expectations, including customer visits and audits * Performs all other duties and assumes other responsibilities, as required Required Skills * Strong safety focus * The ideal candidate will have strong organizational and interpersonal skills with knowledge in basic advanced chemistry, math, and computers * Familiarity with computer programs such as MS Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Minitab.
