The Global Technology Process Control SME functions as an internal consultant, and is expected to develop projects and drive activity that yield improvement across the company. The duties range widely: safety leadership, troubleshooting, optimization, teaching and mentoring, deliberate improvement projects, capital projects, process audits, and strategic studies.
Minimum experience factors and individual attributes of the Process Control SME-IV position:
Minimum of 15 years of experience in operations and service in the process control field, with an emphasis on Pulp & Paper manufacturing.
A college degree in Chemical or Electrical Engineering, or related discipline subject to experience factors. A graduate degree in one of these disciplines could be desirable.
Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
Ability to provide process technical support on a business priority basis.
Experience working across the enterprise as a trusted advisor on process control solutions, policy setting, and defining the technology path.
Capacity to lead and/or participate in several projects simultaneously.
Experience leading teams and demonstrated success directing work and delegating responsibilities of team members with accountability for results.
Capable of supporting extensive domestic and international travel.
Experience as a Consultant in the Process Control field is desirable.
Fluency in multiple languages is not required, but skill in Russian, French, Portuguese, or Polish would be useful.
Process Control Expertise
Key Process Control skills and experience factors of the SME-IV position:
Working knowledge of all primary manufacturing processes in the facility (Pulping, Power, Finished Products), with holistic understanding of interactions and dependencies between operating areas.
Demonstrate success developing and applying process control solutions for process/product improvement and cost reduction in all areas of the facility.
Expert level ability to design, configure, and implement complex process strategies, with distributed control systems (DCS) and programmable logic controllers (PLC).
Broad understanding of regulatory and advanced control principles, with deep experience and success applying advanced strategies such as multivariable and model-based control (APC/MPC) and optimizing strategies.
Proficient with modern computer programming languages, networking principles, and communication protocols.
Proficiency with process identification and analysis methods, and software tools such as Expertune, ProTuner, and/or Entech.
Experience with process diagnostics and variability analysis, using tools such as OSI PI, ParcView, Aspen IP/21, and MatLab.
Experience with planning and executing capital projects.
Working knowledge of industrial instrumentation applications and their performance factors (valves, sensors, transmitters, analyzers).
