Summary:

Maintains responsibility for the daily processing and inspection of the parts returned from the field for investigation of quality issues. Ensures prompt investigation of the parts to confirm the failure mode and the next steps for root cause determination. Follows the investigation to ensure that each matter is handled promptly and conclusively.

Documents and maintains processes for all Quality Investigation activities. Develops training materials for Quality Investigation Processes for Subaru of Indiana Automotive (SIA), vehicle distributors and North American Subaru, Inc. (NASI) Quality Assurance (QA) staff.

Primary Responsibilities:

Must be able to perform all of these:

  • Prepares and leads the Parts Inspection meetings with SIA and SOA . Ensures that the documentation and back-up information is available before the meeting.

  • Confirms the actual failures by joining the part inspections and coordinating and observing the reproduction tests performed by PCC and/or SIA. As needed, performs the reproduction test by installing on a vehicle or test fixture. Confirms that the test results and data are properly recorded. Prepares the Technical Report (TR) when requested.

  • Reviews field information, in cooperation with NJ, to provide relevant information to support preparation of a data report. Requests additional information from distributors through PCC as needed.

  • Interfaces and collaborates with NAQA NJ and distributor staff to ensure that they have a clear understanding of the inspection results and status of the root cause determination.

  • Develops documentation of all quality processes for NAQA and SIA and training materials for staff. Assists in presenting the training to the required staff.

  • Serves as reviewer of translated documents to ensure relevance and accuracy.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Interacts and works with with NAQA NJ to support field investigations, activities and field report data analysis.

  • Interacts with NAQA IN Staff to prepare materials for QIM meetings and other quality activities.

  • Attends with SIA and NAQA Field Investigation engineers and Distributor Field Service Engineers (FSEs) as needed.

  • Participates in the Key Dealer Program and coordinates with NAQA NJ and SIA QE on issue follow-up as needed.

Required Skills and Abilities:

  • Strong knowledge of Quality Improvement disciplines such as Deming, Juran, etc.

  • Strong skills with MS Office, Oracle, MS Access, etc.

  • Strong technical skills and knowledge of Subaru product.

Strong understanding of Distributor warranty systems and Retailer activities.

  • Knowledge of vehicle manufacturing processes.

  • Strong knowledge of Subaru Quality reporting & recording systems (TR & SQIP).

  • Strong interpersonal skills, able to coordinate and negotiate across several groups and cultures and management levels.

  • Prior experience in Retailer Service Operations, with technician experience. Subaru Master Technician Certification (or similar from another OE) is a plus.

  • Japanese language skill is a plus, but, if not, incumbent should be willing to learn Japanese.

Education/Experience:

Bachelor's degree and 8-10 years of experience.
