Cabot has an exciting opportunity for a Process Control Engineer (Operational Technology) who will provide leadership and expertise identifying, prioritizing, and implementing continuous improvements in manufacturing processes across multiple sites utilizing Automation and Control Systems. We are seeking a fully qualified and experienced Process Control Engineer. The Process Engineer will work on-site at the Tuscola, IL plant.

How You Will Make an Impact

In this role,your primary duty is to focus on process safety, process capability, capacity, and productivity. Identifies and implements New Technology Solutions aimed at increasing manufacturing efficiency. Implement process changes while ensuring safety and environmental compliance, process efficiency, product quality, and cost effectiveness. This role requires a safety mind-set, self-motivated person with a positive attitude, a ton of good energy, effective time management, organization, and record-keeping skills. A successful candidate will be someone who can:

  • Provide coordination of Automation and Control regional activities within Fumed Metal Oxides (FMO). The locations are Midland, MI; Carrollton, KY; and Tuscola, IL. Develop annual budgets for the supported sites and ensure adequate cost control. Coordinate in-house work and all external services which have any effect on the DCS and Aspen systems. This includes maintenance jobs, new installations, instrumentation upgrades, and process control changes. Travel will be ~15%.

  • Ensure the ongoing reliability, integrity, and performance of the site manufacturing systems hardware and software. This includes spearheading troubleshooting efforts related to the DCS and Aspen system as well as coordinating assistance with maintenance and external resources as required. Coordinate the selection and timing of process control equipment and software upgrades; ensuring compliance with applicable engineering standards and practices.

  • Responsible for implementation, system management, troubleshooting, and documentation of manufacturing and production control systems including associated networks. Maintain all documentation describing the hardware and software configuration of the DCS and Aspen systems. Ensure consistency between DCS and process historian systems. Responsible for configuration and programming of the following: Calculations, Programs, Logic, Graphics, History Database, Points, logs, reports, database queries and any other related configuration needs.

  • Maintain and support strategy and standards associated with the day-to-day operational support of site manufacturing systems (DCS, Aspen, Statistical Process Control System, etc.) and be focal point for documentation and training. Follow Corporate policies and procedures for modifying setup, configuration, security, and related manufacturing systems components.

  • Responsible for recommending, developing, and coordinating Capital improvements related to the DCS and Aspen systems. This also includes supporting other Capital and engineering projects that involves process control automation and ensuring that new systems are designed and installed in harmony with current plant systems.

  • Provide security system support for North America sites. Ensure personnel using the system have appropriate access to the system functions both from within the facility and through remote intranet connections. Responsible for site informational security by ensuring proper backups of appropriate information from the systems are performed on a routine basis and stored in a safe location. This includes both system configuration and data collection.

  • Recommends and implements changes to improve plant performance by optimizing product volume, yields and quality in accordance with business needs, while minimizing operating costs and maximizing unit safety and reliability. Uses statistical techniques to improve process capability; uses failure analysis methodology to investigate, find root causes, recommend, and implement equipment modifications and upgrades and/or implement process improvements.

  • Supports efforts to implement and maintain the Responsible Care Management System in line with the requirements of the RC14001 and ISO9001 technical specification, as applicable to the site/region.

What You Will Bring to Cabot

  • Bachelor/University degree in Chemical Engineering or relevant Engineering discipline with a strong chemical process industry background.

  • Experience: at least 3 to 7 years in a chemical manufacturing process; Experience with Process Automation and controls and data historian system akin to Delta V, Aspen, or like DCS systems.

  • Technical knowledge of process and product technology; engineering principles and theories; Chemical Manufacturing; Process safety management; Root Cause Failure Analysis (RCFA); Capital project management, and analytical and diagnostic skills; Statistics and Statistical Process Control.

  • Technical knowledge of Distributed control system components, equipment architecture, database configuration, alarm management and data historian systems.

  • Ability to effectively communicate across functions and management levels.

  • Ability to manage and implement change initiatives; manage and lead projects; Prioritize work.

  • Effective time management, organizational, and record keeping skills. Advanced computer skills - proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams, online collaboration systems and computerized maintenance management systems.

  • Willing and able to work collaboratively in a team-based environment. Strong written and verbal communication and active listening skills. Able to work independently. Self-motivated with a track record of dependability.

  • A proven positive safety, health, and environmental record in an industrial workplace. Familiar with topics such as Process Safety Management, safe work permitting, lockout/tagout, emergency response, and hazard awareness.

  • Contributes to Cabot's Process Safety Management compliance by maintaining accurate Process Safety Information, supporting the Management of Change process, and participating in Pre-Startup Safety Reviews and Process Hazards Analyses.
